The release of Marvel’s latest Disney+ show She Hulk: Lawyer is almost upon us, and since it’s the penultimate entry in the MCU’s Phase Four, we’re hoping it’ll be more than just a cameo, a Case of the Week. Here are five things you need to know before watching She-Hulk.
5. Broken Fourth Wall
Many casual viewers will watch this, and as soon as we get Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk’s first fourth wall, think the show and the character are just tearing Deadpool apart. They would be wrong. She-Hulk has been talking to audiences for far longer than the Merc With a Mouth, and this will be the first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether it will work half as well as it did in the two Deadpool movies remains to be seen, but we have hope.
4. Emile Blonsky
Fourteen years after his first introduction in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, we finally have Emil Blonsky and his alter-ego getting some serious screen time since his brief appearance in Shang Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings. Tim Roth’s return seems to be having fun during the limited screen time in the trailers, but we expect to see a lot of banter between Jennifer Walters and himself, as she seems to portray him to some degree. Bonus points if we get a scene between Roth and Mark Ruffalo, complete with a nod or a line of dialogue commenting on how the HUlk voice actor has changed since Roth’s last outing.

3. Origin Changes
She-Hulk’s origin story involved her receiving a much-needed blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner. Bruce didn’t take the decision lightly, knowing there could be Hulk-like consequences, but had no choice as she was sadly badly injured/dying.
A slight change, but a change nonetheless, we see in the trailer that Bruce and Jennifer are involved in a car accident, resulting in scratches, cuts and bruises between them, and thus Bruce’s blood enters Jennifer’s bloodstream. In previous Hulk outings, we’ve seen multiple times that the Hulk saves Bruce from being harmed, whether it’s his confession to the suicide attempt in The Avengers, or him jumping ship in Ragnarok, so that raises the question. question, how or why was he injured this time?
2. Who is the bad guy?
While the trailers didn’t reveal much about the series’ villain (or villains), we did see a prominent figure in Jameela Jamil’s Titania. While she doesn’t look particularly good looking, the character’s comic origins should be exciting. First, she got her powers through a deal with Doctor Doom. Yes, that Doctor Doom. Second, she’s similar to She-Hulk in that she’s super strong, immune to most damage, and has an intense rivalry with the titular character. Finally, she’s become something of an anti-hero more recently in the comics, so maybe a future Thunderbolts appearance could be on the cards?

1. More teams than not
Number one on this list of five things you need to know before watching She-Hulk would be just how interconnected Jennifer Walters is in the comics. More than perhaps most characters, she has a lot of connections across the Marvel Universe. She’s been a member of the Fantastic Four, leader of the A-Force, and, of course, a longtime member of the Avengers. All this while being a lawyer during the day!
There you go, now that you’ve read the five things you need to know before watching She-Hulk, I hope you’ll watch the series a little more up-to-date!
