Typically more of a niche genre, revenge movies are full of blood, gore, guts, and plenty of tense, almost uncomfortable moments. It’s been done to death over the years, some very poor, some okay, and the reason for this list, some really, really good. So here are the top 7 revenge movies in no particular order…
7. Old Boy (2003)
One of the most infamous and easiest revenge movies to include in this list of the 7 best revenge movies. The 2003 film takes a simple premise of a man out for revenge on his captors and throws a lot of gore, hammerhead, and one of the best long shots in recent television history into the mix.

6. I Spit on Your Grave (1978)
Meir Zarchi wrote and directed what many consider the archetypal revenge thriller. Following a woman’s quest for revenge after being raped and beaten by four men. What follows is a graphic and well-deserved epic of revenge against these men, full of blood and guts, but you won’t want it to end.
5. I saw the devil (2010)
A funny film in the revenge genre, in the sense that the main character quickly catches up with the person who offended him, before letting him go (after a lot of beatings, admittedly), then terrorizing him in a game of cat and crooked mouse.
4. The Raven (1994)
The film itself was mired in controversy when the late Brandon Lee was killed on set due to a malfunctioning prop gun, The crow had the main character killed, then resurrected by a crow as revenge on his murderers.
3. John Wick (2014)
Spawning a franchise, the first film pitted our titular hero against the Russian mafia after they mindlessly stole his car and murdered his dog in more disturbing ways. Not realizing who he was at the time, they quickly come to regret their actions as we see Wick murder and maim entire armies of gangsters in an effort to get to whoever killed his dog.
2. Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 (2003, 2004)
Cheating a bit by having two movies in the same spot on the top 7 revenge movies list, but both for space and clarity, that seems fair. Uma Thurman’s bride goes after her former teammates after they betray her, leaving her for dead in a shallow grave. Tarantino’s signature over-the-top blood and dismemberment follows.

1. Braveheart (1995)
Not necessarily what you would think of in the first place when you think of revenge movies, but what else would you call it Brave heart? Happy and satisfied, William Wallace springs into action in a bloody band of terror against the English after his wife is murdered in front of him.
Here is my list of the 7 best revenge movies. What would you have added? Did I miss any obvious ones?
