At this point, we’ve got over a hundred hours of MCU content, and that comes with more than a few superheroes and villains. With recent leaks from Riri Williams in the Stone heart show, now seems like a good time to revisit all that content and look at the 5 MCU costumes that were awesome and 5 that weren’t.
5. It Didn’t Work: Captain America – The Avengers

It sticks out like a sore thumb these days, but even Chris Evans said how clunky and dated the costume from the first team-up movie looked, especially compared to his more recent costumes. The MCU has pulled off a good combination of comic precision without looking too clunky ever since.
4. Didn’t Work: The Scarlet Witch – Age of Ultron

“Just put on a red coat and you’ll be fine” – the costume department presumably. Her character’s outfits and costumes have come a long way since then, but it was a lazy effort. His latest costumes have been much more intricate and pleasing to the eye, while still staying true to the core of his character.

3. Didn’t Work: Iron Patriot – Iron Man 3

Colors everywhere, and ultimately just a new paint scheme for what was already War Machine, Iron Patriot looked a little lame then and still does today. Certainly, there is not much to do within the framework of the history of iron man 3given the way Iron Patriot performs, but it’s still mediocre.
2. Didn’t Work: Quicksilver – Age of Ultron

A body. He wears a bodysuit. No more no less. I mean it wouldn’t look out of place on a race track and maybe that’s the point, but another effortless costume. It’s not the best example of a speedster in movie history, and the costume certainly doesn’t help either.
1. Didn’t work: Whiplash – Iron Man 2

The first time we see what’s supposed to be the film’s main villain, he’s idling down a running track, half-naked with a few electrical wires across his chest. It looks cheap and flimsy, further proven when Iron Man takes it apart. That’s probably the goal, but they could have tried harder. In fact, the character as a whole could have been a lot better and remains one of the weakest villains in the MCU as a whole.
5. Worked: Iron Man MKIII – Iron Man

The first entry in the 5 MCU Suits That Were Great and fourteen years later and it’s still Iron Man’s best suit in the MCU as a whole. Its mechanical, rattling look sounds, looks and feels better than the nanotech suits of Infinity War and End of Game. Unfortunately, you can’t have superheroes without steady progress with their costumes, and that certainly rings true for one of the most technologically savvy characters in comic book history.
4. Worked: Captain America – Infinity War

A dark, gritty version of his previous costumes, with his star and Avengers symbols removed, symbolizes his loss of faith in the government (the star) and how lonely he is (no “A” symbol). Arguably my favorite of his costumes to the point that I have it tattooed on my arm, I challenge anyone to point out a better Captain America costume.

3. Worked: Loki – The Avengers

The whole thing is stunning to look at and one of the best suited costumes in the comics. From her flowing cape to her massive golden horns, the costume designers nailed it perfectly. While his most recent costumes and costumes haven’t been particularly bad, he culminated with his costume play in The Avengersand with the character change now, that won’t change.
2. Worked: Scarlet Witch – Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness

After many appearances and attempts, they finally got a costume worthy of the character, and oh boy, did this one fall out of the park. As mentioned before, Wanda/Scarlet Witch’s costumes have gotten exponentially better than her first appearance a long time ago. Avengers: Age of Ultron, with this being his best yet.
1. Worked: Black Panther – Civil War

Number one on the list of 5 MCU costumes that were awesome and 5 that weren’t, personally I prefer the Civil war version in the Black Panther costume, but that’s just me. Both are fantastic, and both do a lot with the character, whether it’s the vibranium suit saving him from damage, or the storage and expulsion of kinetic energy featured in Black Panther.
This is my list of 5 MCU costumes that were awesome and 5 that weren’t, but what additions would you have made to the list? Disagree with mine? Let us know in the comments.
