An Australian TV network has issued an apology after their CEO made inappropriate comments about Emilia Clarke while discussing her appearance in game of thrones.
During a speech before the screening of the first episode of Dragon Housenew from HBO game of thrones prequel series, Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany made a misguided attempt to joke about the original series’ star, Emilia Clarke. Foxtel is the Australian network that broadcasts both game of thrones and now Dragon House in Australia.
The network was forced to apologize after Delany offended by referring to Emilia Clarke, who appears in game of thrones like Daenerys Targaryen, like a “stocky little girl.”
In his speech to the Dragon House screening, Delany talked about being late to the party on game of thronessaying “I was like, ‘What the hell is that show with the chunky little girl walking through the fire?’.”
The joke reportedly did not go down well with the public, prompting gasps from the crowd. A Foxtel spokesperson has now issued an apology for the remarks made to the Dragon House first, though the statement appears to fail to acknowledge the offense and assigns blame to Delany’s comments about Emilia Clarke being “misunderstood” by the public.
Foxtel’s official apology for the CEO’s comments on game of thrones‘ Emilia Clarke reads:
“The point was to convey that for him, Games of Thrones was something very different for television in 2011 and that Emilia Clarke went from relatively unknown to one of the most recognized and beloved actresses in the world. television and film.On behalf of Mr. Delany, Foxtel Group apologizes if his remarks were misunderstood and offended anyone.
Emilia Clarke has yet to comment on the remarks, but needless to say, it’s not a good look for Foxtel and its CEO ahead of the release of the new game of thrones prequel. Dragon House will follow the story of Daenerys de Clarke’s ancestors, as civil war breaks out in House Targaryen.
Here is the synopsis:
Based on the book Fire & Blood by George RR Martin, the series will tell the story of House Targaryen (aka the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and will be set 300 years before the events of Game Of Thrones.
