How does the MCU hero differ from his comics?

She-Hulk is finally here and it’s everything we’ve been waiting for and more. From the first episode, it’s been established that she’s not here to play. From being among the strongest superheroes to being a badass lawyer, she can do it all. The first episode did a good job of introducing us to the MCU’s version of the Gamma Gal, but is she accurate? Let’s find out.

Origin:

She-Hulk

If you had the chance to catch up on his comic book history, you would have noticed that his origin story isn’t the same in the MCU. In the comics too, Jennifer becomes She-Hulk by coming into contact with her cousin, Bruce’s blood, but how that happens in the MCU and the comics is different.

In the series, we saw that a Sakaarian ship ambushed Bruce and Jen, resulting in a car crash. As Jennifer tries to help Bruce out of the car, he bleeds into his wounds, instantly turning her into the Hulk. However, this is not the case in the comics. In this version, she becomes She-Hulk after being attacked by criminals she chased and is critically injured. Luckily, Bruce was in town and gave her a blood transfusion. In doing so, he saved her life but also turned her into the Hulk.

Powers and Abilities:

Disney+ She-Hulk

The first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law gives us a good idea of what Jennifer can do when she’s angry and green. One thing that gives her an edge over the Hulk is that she was able to regain consciousness almost instantly after transforming into She-Hulk. She hasn’t had to battle an alter ego like Bruce did for years. Other than that, like the Hulk, Jen has impenetrable skin, superhuman strength and stamina, and while she can’t fly, she can jump very high over great distances.

One of the highlights of the episode was when we saw the two carcass fights. It quickly became clear that the Greenie is as capable as Bruce. We’ve seen her take on Smart Hulk and use classic Hulk moves such as Hulk Smash and Hulk Clap. She was also able to control when she transformed into the Hulk in no time. So it’s safe to say that even though his origin story has been changed, his powers and abilities are mostly accurate.

More than one She-Hulk?

Is Jennifer Walters the only She-Hulk? While that might be true in the MCU (at least for now), in the comics the Hulk family might get a bit complex. Outside of Jennifer, Bruce’s on-and-off love interest Betty Ross becomes the Red She-Hulk. Along with her, we also had a Savage She-Hulk, which is basically Hulk’s daughter from the future.

While it’s unlikely we’ll see any of these characters in the MCU anytime soon, but with multiple Hulk family members rumored to appear on the show, there’s hope.
