Early life
It was in Liverpool that Liza Tarbuck was born. She is the daughter of Jimmy Tarbuck, a comedian, and Pauline, his wife. She has an older sister named Cheryl and a younger brother named James. She trained at RADA and the National Youth Theatre, graduating in 1986 with Mark Womack, Rebecca Pidgeon and Clive Owen.
Acting
Tarbuck’s breakthrough role was co-starring Emma Wray in the comedy series Watching on Granada Television in 1987. She remained with Watching for all seven years. Along with Colin Firth, Paul Rhys and David Calder, she played Angie in the 1988 Falklands War drama Tumbledown.
She took on the lead role in Linda Green in 2001, and the show continued for two seasons until its conclusion in 2002.
She made her guest star debut on Ricky Gervais’ comedy series Extras and played DI Fiona Knight on The Inspector Lynley Mysteries.

In September 2007, Tarbuck and Mark Radcliffe co-hosted the weekday afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 while Steve Wright was away. She hosted the show again in December 2007 (as well as January and March 2008), although this time she did it alone. She and Radcliffe co-presented again in July 2008.
She co-hosted the Saturday morning show on BBC Radio 2 with Martin Freeman in December 2008 and January 2009 while Jonathan Ross was away from the station, and she did so again in August 2009 with Huey Morgan of Fun Lovin’ Criminals. In November 2009, the duo presented the program again.
In March 2009, she replaced Sarah Kennedy’s beloved Dawn Patrol show for a week.
