In the MCU, Thanos had a total of six children, all adopted. Four of them – Ebony Maw, Cull Obsidian, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight were part of the Black Order. Thanos also had 2 adopted daughters – Gamora and Nebula. There was a hatred and disdain shared between the children as they all tried to win their father’s affection. Each child was extremely qualified and trained. They completed missions and carried out orders given by Thanos.
We discovered Gamora and Nebula during Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1 and saw them again during Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2. Avengers: Infinity Wars and Endgame finally introduced the Black Order. They went against the Avengers, aiming to retrieve the Time Stone and the Mind Stone for their father. They were quickly defeated and killed by the Avengers. Nonetheless, we got a glimpse of each of their powers and potential, although some more than others. Now, let’s rank them all 6!
6. Cull Obsidian
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see much of Cull Obsidian. His character was quite underwhelming compared to the comics. From what we saw, he appeared to be all brawn and brainless. However, in the muscle department, he was second to none. Originally in Infinity Wars, repulsors from Tony Stark’s updated armor caused him to explode. However, using his brute strength and chain hammer, he almost crushed Iron Man. At the last moment, Spider-Man appeared and saved him.
He showed great proficiency with his chain hammer, as he used it to send Iron Man flying into a nearby park. He even had a shield he used to protect himself from Iron Man’s blasts. Another display of his strength was when he broke through a building. Wong eventually took him out of the fight by opening an inter-dimensional portal with his sling ring. He transported him to Antarctica and cut off his hand in the process. He returned during the Battle of Wakanda with a prosthetic arm but was again defeated by Bruce Banner in the Hulkbuster armor. During their fight, he overpowered Banner but, as mentioned earlier, he fell short when it came to tactics and intelligence.
5. Glaive of Corvus
Corvus Glaive was part of the attack on Wanda and Vision in Scotland. He pierced Vision with his glaive and compromised its structural integrity. This prevented Vision from phasing. With Proxima Midnight, he nearly cornered Wanda and killed Vision before Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow showed up. Black Widow successfully injured him before being teleported back to their ship.
We see him again during the Battle of Wakanda. He and Proxima Midnight orchestrated the sneak attack on Vision while Wanda was distracted in battle. He easily tackled the Wakandan guards. While fighting Vision, he had the upper hand until Captain America intervened. Glaive also overpowered Cap but was stabbed by Vision using his own blade. He displayed superhuman strength and durability and even healed quickly from his previous injuries inflicted in the fight against Scotland. As his name suggests, he showed immense mastery of his blade or the sword. He was a great fighter and he was not an easy opponent at all.
4. Proxima Midnight
Proxima Midnight attacked Wanda in Scotland. She helped Corvus Glaive pin down Vision. Wanda lashed out at her and used her powers to defend against her attacks, however, Midnight managed to knock Wanda and Sky Vision out and run them into a train station. She had them cornered until Cap and the others came to their rescue. She threw her spear at Captain America but to no avail. There were several moments during her battle with Wanda where Midnight had the upper hand and landed some really good shots, which is a great feat considering Wanda’s powers. She also saved the injured Glaive as she teleported away.
In the Battle of Wakanda, she led the army and also ordered Vision’s sneak attack. Midnight with her brilliant fighting skills knocked Black Widow to the ground and was about to kill her. Okoye and Scarlet Witch came to her aid, but Midnight also did a quick job. She managed to take on both Okoye and Romanoff. She had them within reach until Wanda used her telekinesis and threw her into a Thresher’s path, thus killing her. Midnight has displayed superhuman strength, durability, and extreme speed and agility in her attacks. She is a formidable fighter and is trained in the use of spears and swords. Midnight is also a skilled acrobat as she showed off her moves in the fight against Scotland.
3. Nebula
Nebula, a luphomoid assassin, is one of Thanos’ adopted daughters. We see her transform from villain to heroine. Her body had been slowly replaced, piece by piece, by Thanos’ machines every time she lost a fight against Gamora. Thanos tortured her hoping it would make her tougher and stronger.
His hatred for Gamora resulted in several failed attempts to kill her. But we see that she is a great fighter. She is a skilled pilot and has piloted many ships. During Nebula’s battle with Gamora on Planet Ego, she finally beat her in battle and proved her worth. It’s also the moment where we really see Nebula beyond her otherwise cold demeanor. As she sides with the heroes, she becomes an integral part of the battle against Thanos in both Titan and later Endgame.
However, his weakness is his own emotions and his constant need to prove himself. His remotely accessible memory file also becomes the downfall of the Time Heist. She and her memories were used as pawns when Thanos attempted to extract information regarding Gamora’s Soul Stone.
Nebula fights Thanos on Titan and lands a few good shots. During Endgame, she retrieved the Power Stone orb from the temple using her own hands, displaying her superhuman durability. Her intelligence showed when she understood the concept of the time machine and the various timelines much faster than the other Avengers.
During the final battle, she convinced the old version of Gamora to betray Thanos and also killed Nebula 2014. The simple reason why she ranks above the rest is that she played a pivotal role in eliminating Thanos while the others were unsuccessful in their quests.
2. Gamora – Favorite Child
Gamora, often known as the deadliest woman in the galaxy, is Thanos’ other daughter. From the start of Guardians vol 1, we see his combat skills and agility. She fights with great speed and speed. His mastery of the Godslayer is evident right away.
Although she too has cybernetic and bionic enhancements, being a Zehoberei already makes her inhumanly strong and durable. She is fearless, intelligent, and calm in the face of adversity. She was the first to sense that there was something wrong with Ego. Her acrobatic skills were on full display when she jumped and climbed the Abisilk, then opened it with her sword. She helped Quill take out Ronan and shared the Power Stone’s energy. It’s not an easy task even with 4 people.
She ranks even higher due to her intelligence and knowledge of the universe. Her ability to wield almost any weapon gave her an added advantage as she battled Nebula on the Dark Aster. She is also a skilled pilot as she helped maneuver Quill’s spaceship to evade the Sovereign Fleet that was chasing them for stealing Anulax batteries.
During Infinity Wars, on Knowhere, they sneaked into The Collector museum. Here, Gamora defeated and killed Thanos with a combination of quick, quick moves, eventually stabbing him with the same dagger he gave her when she was just a child. However, it turned out that Thanos had already retrieved the Reality Stone and it was all just an illusion.
Gamora is brave, courageous, picky and selfless. She was willing to sacrifice herself if it meant stopping Thanos from getting his hands on the Soul Stone.
1. Ebon Maw
Ebony Maw was Thanos’ only child who had never let him down on any mission before. He was deeply loyal and acted as Thanos’ right-hand man. His telekinetic powers made him incredibly fearsome. He could Confront Doctor Strange while deflecting attacks from Wong and Spider-Man. In the end, he managed to capture Strange and tortured him using sharp needles meant for microsurgery. He could easily flick through Obsidian with just his telekinesis. During the fight in New York, he used his powers to cut cars in half, uproot trees from the sidewalk, and turn bricks into sharp needles.
He can also use his telekinesis to levitate and fly. What makes him even scarier is that he is an excellent tactician. He was the calm and collected thinker of the Order and possessed genius levels of intelligence. His rank as the strongest comes from the ease with which he handles threats. The others, masters of hand-to-hand combat, couldn’t get that close in the first place. Aboard the Statesman, in search of the Space Stone, he restrained Thor, the God of Thunder, and gagged him using broken metal parts.
