Before we go ahead and discuss the Rings of Power, it must be mentioned that according to the legend of the famous author Tolkien, these three rings were made by the legendary Elven craftsman Celebrimbor in secret and intended only for Elves.
Once Celebrimbor learned that Sauron’s true motives for making the rings were both evil and dangerous, he no longer trusted him, and so the rings were made, and their location shrouded in secrecy.
Later, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel became the Keepers of the Rings, as well as the first users of the Elvish Rings of Power. Although these rings were forged without Sauron’s knowledge, he did so using techniques learned from the Dark Lord, so the rings were imbued with the power of the One Ring while he was still under the control of Sauron.
At the end of the Third Age, when the One was destroyed, the three rings became powerless and were carried by their bearers across the ocean.
The Three Rings of Power were:
1. narya
First on your list is Narya, also known as the Red Ring or the Ring of Fire. Celebrimbor, the legendary craftsman made the first and presented it to Gil-galad, king of the Noldor. After he died, he was taken by Crdan, who eventually handed him over to Gandalf after the latter returned to Middle-earth.
Similar to other elven rings, Narya also contains a precious gem placed within its core, in this case a scarlet gem, giving it the nickname “Red Ring”. It can give its user stamina and courage, allowing them to stand their ground against anyone who dares try to subjugate the Narya’s guardian. Unlike the One Ring, which renders its wearers invisible by teleporting them to the realm of darkness, this one can only be seen if its owner chooses to reveal it.
2. Nenya
Nenya has several other names, including the White Ring, Adamant’s Ring, as well as the Water Ring. Along with Narya and Vilya, it is part of the Three Rings of Power. Galadriel was given the task of guarding it, and she fulfilled this duty faithfully. It was the strength of this relic that enabled the lady of Lórien to repel Sauron’s invasion of her kingdom, and that is why it was given the name “the ring of beauty”.
The core of the ring was most likely set with a diamond and was made from silver or mithril. He boasted of the power to protect precious treasures from the ravages of time, to keep them out of the grasp of exploiters, and to keep them out of the reach of the immoral.
3. Vilya
The sapphire from Vilya’s golden mount was the most powerful component of the legendary Three Rings. Vilya may have offered the ability to heal and protect, however, this is not explicitly stated.
Elrond’s ability to call down a deluge of floods upon the Nazgûl as they attempted to bridge the Bruinen led many to believe that the ring has the power to manipulate forces. It’s likely that it is, given that Galadriel ruled Lothlórien using her magic ring. It’s possible that Elrond did the exact same thing in Rivendell with Vilya.
