Enjoying the popularity of the political drama series game of thronesHBO has announced a spin-off series called Dragon House in 2019. With Ryan J. Condal and Emmy winner Miguel Sapochnik to direct the series, it will be released on HBO Max.

Set 200 years before the events of game of thronesthe show will follow the ancestors of Daenarys Targaryen based on George RR Martinthe novel Fire & Blood. It will cover the war of succession between the descendants of ancient Valyria.
House of Dragon Origins
Despite the terrible reception given to the last season of game of thrones, the studio and showrunners felt confident to announce its spinoff series. In an interview with Collider, the showrunners described how they got the series started.

Asked about his first meeting with George RR Martin, Ryan J. Condal described as very innocent, just a fan. He noted that he just wanted to get to know the writer because he had such a big influence on his life, he said:
“If there was an organic opportunity that presented itself, I always looked for it, and George was one of those opportunities… That was now almost 10 years ago. I felt like George needed anything from me. I just wanted to get to know him. Obviously that led to things later on, but I never expected anything from it.
The showrunners have already planned season 2
Given the popularity of the original series and the wealth of content to be adapted from the novel, the showrunner already knows what they will include in season 2 of Dragon House. In the same interview, the showrunner said:
“I think we have a pretty good plan. Shots like this should always be pretty wide, but you have an idea of landmarks and places you want to go, and an idea of an endpoint, which I think is really important, in especially with this story.

He also noted that there are around 170 years of content that they can adapt into live action. The showrunner also interestingly noted how eager and eager fans will be to see more of the franchise. He added :
“I think we have a good plan for Season 2, if HBO is willing and willing to continue telling the story with us. There really are 300 years of Targaryen history to explore, and there’s a lot of stories in there that are really fascinating.

A fan-favorite topic that’s been hidden in mystery for quite some time in Old Valyria’s story, teased in the game of thrones. While commenting on the Targayreans’ departure from Old Valyria, the showrunners hinted at more content about it in the series.
Dragon House will be available on HBO Max on August 21, 2022.
