Top Gun: Maverick still doesn’t seem to lose interest in breaking box office records as it passes Avengers: Infinity War to become the 6th highest-grossing hit in the United States. The Tom Cruise starring sequel proved to be a big hit this year and didn’t miss a chance to dominate in theaters, even releasing 3 decades after the first film. In a recent interview with the producer of this film, he revealed that fans are now tired of CGI monotony as a result of which sometimes they also like to watch something real.

Elaborating on the film’s success, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that one of the main reasons behind it is the emotion felt in the film. He added that instead of relying on CGI, this movie takes the real approach and that’s what makes it special:
“That’s the whole story; it’s about the emotion, it’s about bringing Iceman back, it’s about seeing a real movie,” Bruckheimer said, “You’re in the F-18, just like these actors. They trained for three months to be able to ride in an F-18… You can see the difficulties of what they’re doing, what they’re going through. It’s all real, it’s not made up.
The producer said that nowadays the audience is tired of CGI monotony. According to him, the feeling of realism is good and also creates a link between the viewer and the film:
“I think audiences have seen so much CGI, which is wonderful, I’m going to see the same movies, but it’s also nice to see the real deal and be part of a camaraderie of characters rising in the heaven and must be as good as they can be”
It is apparent from Bruckheimer’s words that he also values the real emotions and actions in a film more than the visuals which could also be felt from the essence of starring Tom Cruise.

After the file of Infinity War was broken, Jerry Bruckheimer said that while Marvel and DC are extremely good with their visual effects, they fail to convey the sense of realism that movies like Top Gun: Maverick can do. Unlike Marvel, these films provide an experience similar to what the characters feel on screen:
“Audiences love Marvel, they love the DC stuff. It’s beautifully done by really talented people. Sometimes you want to see something real, and that’s what Top Gun gave us…These airmen are there- down to protect our country right now, flying around the world, and you take a ride with them. You see what they do, you see what their lives are like, and the trials and tribulations they have to go through. You really live it with our actors.
With the recent shift in audience preferences, this is a very important statement by Bruckheimer as it clearly articulates the perspective of modern day audiences who no longer get confused by compelling visuals. Modern audiences appreciate the emotion and depth of the film’s storyline much more than its CGI.
Top Gun: Maverick will air on Paramount+ from August 23, 2022.
