While promoting and discussing the upcoming sixth season of his hit show rick and morty, Dan Harmon gave a new update on the long-awaited community film. One that while exciting for us Community fans are also dampening the expectation of any immediate development for the film.
More concrete than any confession from the creator before this, it looks like we’ll be witnessing a Community movie at some point, we just don’t know when.
#Six seasons and a movie
Premiere in 2009, Community tells the story of a group of students from their local community college. Starring Joel Mchale, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover and Chevy Chase, it follows students as they come to terms with how they got to Greendale College. At a college not particularly well regarded by the surrounding community, students find themselves in all sorts of bizarre situations, from campus-wide paintball battles to blackmailing tutors and in later seasons more bizarre and unrealistic occurrences, the show is highly praised by its fans.

With the last episode airing seven years ago in 2015, whose final season was on the air with cancellations and ratings drops, the idea of a movie was seen as nothing more than a campaign to fans created at the back. of a disposable line in the show. That may no longer be the case, however, after a recent update from Dan Harmon appears to be throwing gasoline on the fire.
“I will say now that it is a question of ‘when’. I paid so much attention to [saying] this,”
While speaking to Newsweek, he confirmed that he’s been working on the film for a long time in one way or another, and while it’s been slow and hard to get, he’s confident fans will be able to see it, but have no idea when.
“How about this for a concrete thing? Harmon teased, “There’s a plan for this. There is a product assembled and released to the world. I guess that’s how real it is. It’s probably enough to drive people crazy when [there’s nothing] a year from now. That still doesn’t mean there will be a movie tomorrow. This means that there will definitely be one.

So, while far more certain than any comment he’s ever made before, it’s still pretty vague on developments that Harmon has left himself some wiggle room if things change in the future. The cast of the series have moved on to bigger and better things, with Alison Brie in the recent Netflix series Shine, Joel McHale starring in several films, and Donald Glover stepping back from acting and focusing on his music, directing and writing more specifically.
While Harmon says there are plans for the movie, there are a lot of steps between that and seeing it. Who says the main cast would return? Glover left before the show was canceled and Chase was kicked out because he was difficult to work with.
Maybe in a few years we’ll see it, or we’ll talk about Harmon’s next commentary on the movie, who knows?
