Glen Powell Dispels Rumors of Joining the MCU as Cyclops

Twitter has been abuzz with reports that Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe play Scott Summers, nicknamed Cyclops. Even though the Marvel Cinematic Universe has used Marvel Comics superheroes since the series debuted in 2008, mutants were excluded until recently.

Marvel Studios has repossessed the x-men franchise after being owned by 20th Century Fox for a time. Many important characters, including Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, were to be left out of the Avengers films or reinterpreted as ordinary people.

There are currently no such projects

Marvel Studios didn’t reveal any major X-Men plans at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, despite much speculation to the contrary. Despite the company announcing extensive plans for Phases 5 and 6, mutants don’t appear to be included in either plan at this time.

The internet, meanwhile, hasn’t been deterred by its rumors, with several celebrities reportedly vying for the roles of various classic X-Men. The deserts of rumors in modern times mean that a few of them develop a spirit of their own, being accepted as genuine when they would have been mocked before. Recently, Halle Bailey had to dispel rumors about a character named Kitty Pryde who didn’t exist.

After Bailey’s statement, another performer had to deny speculation about entering Marvel as a favorite X-Men hero. Powell, who fills Hangman’s shoes on Maverick, was asked if there were any facts to the rumors that he could portray Cyclops in the MCU during a chat with Variety. Refuting the speculation, Powell says:

“Before Comic-Con, everyone was like, ‘Dude, are you Cyclops?’ No, I’m not. Nobody called me. I don’t even have any contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about.

Powell’s casting as Cyclops in the MCU has been the subject of recurring rumors since they first appeared on Reddit; however, Marvel Studios and Disney never confirmed the report.

It reminds me of what happened to Bailey on Twitter: someone quoted a description of her, saying she was written about how she got the role of Kitty. But the X-Men, MCU, and Kitty were conspicuously absent from this room. Many people believed this to be true due to the attention it received on reddit and Twitter.
