Fantastic Four Directors Rumor: A Familiar Face Has Signed On To Take On The Directors Chair

With production on Marvel’s First Family’s latest attempt slated to begin next year, set for a November 2024 release, news from the cast of The Fantastic Four is expected any day. As important as who portrays the four superheroes is, equally important is who is going to direct the film. Many expected to find the answers to these questions at the upcoming Disney Expo, and while that’s likely still the case, the film’s director may well have been leaked early on.

John Krasinski as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness

For those unaware, the Fantastic Four have been a staple of Marvel comics since their introduction in November 1961. The team itself may have changed over the years, but the family has always remained the same. , with Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman, Ben Grimm aka The Thing and Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch.

The upcoming 2024 film will mark the fifth iteration of the family, this time under the wing of Marvel Studios and the MCU itself. Roger Corman’s first was never released theatrically, and many have speculated that it was produced as a way to retain the rights and nothing more, and then we have the 2005 and 2007 sequels, which without setting the world on fire, weren’t terrible. And then we had the abysmal 2015 version that managed to offend the comic book fan world with their portrayal of Dr. Doom, among other missteps.

No casting news for the latest release is known, although a multiversal Reed Richards was played by John Krasinski in the recent Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, and even though it was a cameo, fans loved it. Although Krasinski has repeatedly said he doesn’t want to be tied down to multi-year contracts, he’s still the number one fancast for the role. And after the cameo, fans keep hoping to see him again.

director’s chair

Jon Watts, director of the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, has left the director’s seat on Fantastic Four.

It wasn’t too long ago that we already knew the film’s director, with Tom Holland with Spider-Man Trilogy director Jon Watts taking the helm. Declaring exhaustion after five years working on three Spider-Man films, Watts stepped down, freeing up the chair and leaving many of us wondering who would take over.

If the reports are to be believed, we now have the answer. Matt Shakman from Wanda vision the celebrity has supposedly signed on to lead the new The Fantastic Four film. Deliver the opening input into phase four of the MCU with Wandavision, Shakman is no stranger to the MCU and has given us one of the best Disney+ television deals. Although many still remember Ralph Bohner’s misdirection and hope we don’t have something similar in that regard.

The Fantastic Four
Matt Shakman of Wandavision fame to fill the Fantastic Four director’s chair?

A highly sought-after director, he is currently expected to direct the next Star Trek in star trek 4, as well as the Monsterverse TV show produced by Apple TV Godzilla and the titans. Much more familiar with television than with feature films, having directed episodes of Game of Thrones, Succession, and of course Wandavision, if true, it’s quite a vote of confidence from Marvel Studios to hand such an inexperienced feature film director arguably his biggest introduction to the MCU since Spider-Man.

As always, take this with a grain of salt as it’s just a rumour, though more substantial than Steven Spielberg’s recent ones. But hopefully we won’t have to wait long for confirmation, with Disney Expo just around the corner.
