The DC slate made headlines again after Warner Bros. Discovery announced that Shazam 2 and Aquaman 2 are again delayed. Recently, Warner Bros. Discovery is already in the middle of the fire following a series of project cancellations and several other reports. On top of that, these new developments of movie delays don’t look good at all as the studio is facing a lot of criticism. While various fans theorize it in different ways, a concrete reason for the delay is still unknown.
Whereas Shazam 2 has been postponed to March 17, 2023, from its initial date of December 21, 2022, Aquaman 2 experienced a jump from March 17 to December 25, 2023.

DC’s woes don’t seem to end
The cancellation of the HBO Max project bat girl by new CEO David Zaslav has set off a domino effect of a series of exciting studio updates. From the removal of several content from the HBO Max streaming platform, to the announcement of a new cost-cutting technique, to the announcement that only event movies in theaters should be made, the list goes on.

Earlier this month, Warner Bros. Discovery canceled Leslie Grace starring bat girl due to its poor reviews of test screenings. It garnered mixed responses from all over as they trashed a movie that was almost done. Following this, the new CEO announced that he had a long term plan for DC and would only release good and profitable movies from now on.
Even though with the promises made by the studio, the future looks bright, much of the public is disappointed by a series of delays. Despite the lack of a concrete reason, some fans believe it could be linked to actress Amber Heard’s legal troubles. It was earlier reported that many of his scenes were deleted from Aquaman 2. But according to some others, this can also be the case with reshoots. So, with all the factors, it is quite clear that there can be many reasons behind this.

No response from Aquaman 2 makers yet
Aquaman 2 was also set to recast Ben Affleck as Batman after replacing the film’s version of Michael Keaton. It’s also cited as a reason for the film’s delay, but Amber Heard’s problem still holds more points from fans. Amber Heard has been stuck in a legal drama since her split from ex-husband Johnny Depp and it’s still going on.
Although we don’t have any official updates from the makers of Aquaman 2 Yet the Shazam 2 director David F. Sandberg responded to the news. According to Sandberg, this is a wise decision on the part of the studio because many screens were taken following Avatar so although he is impatient, he tells us to wait:
“Although I’m an impatient b*star who wants people to see it as soon as possible (the movie will be fully finished in a few weeks), the move makes sense since Avatar was taking up all IMAX/PLF screens. Fury of the Gods is a great movie and should be seen big!”
So while it seems a bit of a mess now, hopefully the studio will achieve the result it’s trying to achieve in the future. Now though we lost Shazam 2 from this year’s slate we still have DC black adam set to release on October 21, 2022.
