James Wan Shares ‘Aquaman 2’ Concept Art As DC Movie Is Pushed Back

James Wan shared a new look at the world of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom following the announcement that the film’s release has been pushed back to December 2023.

Both Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam! Fury of the gods were recently delayed by Warner Bros. Discovery. Shazam! was postponed to Aquamanthe original release date of March 2023, while the Aquaman the sequel is now slated for Christmas Day 2023.

While DC fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the film, director James Wan has offered a glimpse of the concept art behind Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

New concept images shared by James Wan on Instagram show new corners of DC’s underwater world, as will be explored in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The director promised “a big, epic world-building” in the 2018 sequel Aquaman and this concept art certainly delivers just that. New creatures and landscapes, seemingly both above and below the waves, are out in force here.

The footage also teases an epic Atlantean battle and the return of Black Manta. Aquaman is seen taking on Black Manta while wearing his golden costume from the first movie, which is set to return with his new stealth costume.

While the decision to delay Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom would have come from above, James Wan seems grateful for the extra time needed to perfect the film. While talking about this “epic world-building”, the director notes “I need time to get it right”.

Here is the next Aquaman sequel synopsis:

When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis and the world from irreversible devastation.

Directed by James Wan, the upcoming sequel stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Vincent Regan as Atlan, Jani Zaho as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon, and game of thrones star Pilou Asbæk in an unknown role.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits theaters on March 17, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on DC’s next movie, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
