Mark Ruffalo has revealed he doesn’t know how much longer he’ll be playing The Incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Mark Ruffalo made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2012 avengers following the departure of Edward Norton. Since then, the events of the 2008 film, The Incredible Hulk, was largely ignored except for a few Thunderbolt Ross appearances by William Hurt. In reality, She-Hulk: Lawyer is the first entry in the MCU to openly acknowledge the events that unfolded in the film.
In late 2020, it was officially confirmed that Mark Ruffalo would reprise the role of Hulk for She-Hulk. So far, the character has appeared in two of the show’s episodes and it’s not yet known how much of a role he will play in the rest of the show. The actor himself, however, is just shocked that he’s still in the MCU.
Speaking to Variety, Mark Ruffalo opened up about how much longer he’ll be playing the Hulk, revealing he’s shocked he’s still around:
“I don’t know! I’m still surprised that I’m still here. I mean, Ed Norton and I joke that the Hulk is like the Hamlet of our generation – we’re all going to take a chance. I’m still waiting for the next version of it. I mean, I’ll probably do it as long as they have me, if people are interested, and I can bring something that interests me and the fans. But I don’t I have no idea. I mean, you know, when you look at the comics, there are some pretty grizzled old versions of him. I’m like, OK, Hulk, 67, that would be interesting – if we’re all still here to make movies and that there’s a world that allows us to do that more. With what we live in and where we’re headed, the future seems more precarious than at any other time. So I don’t want to don’t go too far, but I hope I’m still here to do it.
