‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’ First Trailer Gives Us a Classic Horror Movie Childhood Story

A Movie No One Realized They Wanted Until It Was Announced, The First Trailer For The Upcoming Slasher Movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is out. Based on characters that have only been in the public domain since earlier this year, the film promises to put a more adult and much more graphic spin on the popular children’s story.

Starring Craig David Dowsett as Pooh and Chris Cordell as his loyal best friend Piglet, the duo go wild after Christopher Robin leaves them for college. A completely normal response of course.

Of course, the original incarnation of Winnie the Pooh was much more loving and wholesome than this version. Created by AA Milne in a series of beloved children’s stories, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and many others feature in several different situations and scenarios that have brought happiness and joy to children around the world.

Featured in books, TV shows, comics, and movies over the years, the character comes with a protective fan base, making it all the more surprising that the general consensus for the upcoming slasher was positive. . It’s definitely a unique approach to a story, taking children’s characters and turning them upside down, and turning them into murderous monsters.

“The film serves as a horror tale of A. A. Milnefrom 1926’s Winnie-the-Pooh, and follows the anthropomorphic characters Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet as they become bloodthirsty murderers when Christopher Robin drops them out for college.

Speaking to Variety in a recent interview to promote the upcoming slasher, director Rhys Waterfield had a lot to say. Describing the film’s balance as sheer terror and acknowledging the absurdity of the premise, Waterfield seems to understand just how ridiculous the film is.

“When you’re trying to make a movie like this, and it’s a really wacky concept, it’s very easy to go down a path where nothing is scary and it’s just really ridiculous and really, like, stupid , and we wanted to go in between.”

With such a “unique” film, it’s good to see the director fully aware of the insane premise, which hopefully translates to the screen and the film doesn’t take itself too seriously. Give me something that I can laugh at one moment and then cringe at the next.

Due to some characters still under copyright with Disney, Waterfield made the understandable omission of a few major players, including Tigger. While it’s a shame not to see the maniacal character bouncing on his tail, no doubt using it as a weapon within the confines of this movie, it’s probably a good cry to avoid any legal issues.

Many other characters are still fair game, however, and it looks like we’ll be seeing many of our favorite Pooh-related characters on the big screen in a completely new and different light. Filmed in just ten days in Ashdown Forest in England, which was the original inspiration for AA Milne’s Hundred Acre Woods, it seems the filmmaking process was quick and relatively straightforward. Nothing has been released regarding the runtime, but with such a quick shoot, it’s obviously going to be shorter.

Looks like the group is fighting back.

As seen in the trailer below, it feels like standard slasher fare to some extent, with hapless humans trapped in a house they’re vacationing in, terrorized and chased by two assailants. These attackers happen to be anthropomorphic versions of Winnie and Piglet. Judging by Eeyore’s homemade tombstone, not only will he be absent in creature form from the film, but his standard depressing commentary will also be absent. Here’s a thought, maybe Bourriquet got his suicidal wish in this rendition?

No one knows if this sparks a trend of turning beloved childhood characters and books into bizarre horror slashers, but if it does, I’m voting for Roald Dahl’s BFG in an apocalyptic world after a sort of giant uprising.

Still no official announcement regarding the release date of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, it should drop before the end of the year, and this new trailer would support this rumor. Either way, check out the trailer for the upcoming movie below.
