star wars star John Boyega recently spoke about JJ Abrams’ work on The Rise of Skywalkerrevealing that he thought the director forced Finn’s arc in the final Skywalker Saga movie.
John Boyega joined the star wars saga as Finn, a stormtrooper-turned-Resistance hero, in the first film in Disney’s sequel trilogy, the force awakens. JJ Abrams crossed out the force awakensbefore Rian Johnson took over the management of The Last Jedi. Episode IX was originally slated to be directed by Colin Trevorrow, before creative differences resulted in Abrams returning.
Many fans felt that the sequel trilogy suffered from a lack of an overall plan. Boyega recently revealed that he thinks JJ Abrams tried to enact his own plan for the show’s overall story, but may have suffered due to the different direction taken in the series. Episode VIII.
Speaking to Happy Sad Confused recently, John Boyega said he believes JJ Abrams tried to force an abandoned vision for Finn to return. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
The actor talked about the ninth star wars hints from the movie that Finn might be Force-sensitive, claiming the discussion started during filming Episode VII – The Force Awakens. However, Boyega said that The Last Jedi then moved in a different direction before JJ Abrams returned to the franchise and tried to bring the story back to its original concept.
Responding to a question about when it was first decided that Finn would be Force-sensitive, John Boyega said:
“It was a discussion of VII that was brewing, because you didn’t know which way it was going to go. And then VIII went another direction. So I think, with VIII going another direction, when you take someone to third, they have to kind of appreciate what happened in VIII and then try to make a narrative out of it.
“And JJ really wanted… Force awakens is the movie that JJ made, he was sort of charting a course, but obviously with the different creative differences in the middle and then getting to the third, it’s kind of like he always wanted to, you know, just force it in there, just squeeze it in there.
John Boyega went on to explain that, for JJ Abrams, teasing Finn’s ability to sense the Force in The Rise of Skywalker were an attempt to explain why Finn was able to wield a lightsaber and defend himself against Kylo Ren in the force awakens.
