birdman and The ghost director Alejandro G. Iñarritu is in a sort of one-sided feud with Marvel Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr.
Iñarritu added his name to the bandwagon of superhero movies in 2014, when he called the genre “cultural genocide”. Iron Man Star Robert Downey Jr. was asked to respond shortly afterwards, saying: “For a man whose first language is Spanish, to be able to compose a phrase like ‘cultural genocide’ shows how brilliant he is. .”
Apparently the comments still annoy Iñarritu, who has doubled down on his attention-grabbing stance since Martin Scorsese said Marvel movies were “not cinema.”
Giving his response to Alejandro G. Iñarritu’s comments, Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr. said he “respects the devil” of the director. Apparently the feeling isn’t mutual.
When talking to IndieWire about his new Netflix movie bardo, Iñarritu was asked about Downey Jr.’s response to his comments about the superhero movie. “It was like ‘Oh, you guys from your banana country,'” the birdman said the manager. “If I was from Denmark or Sweden, I could pass for a philosopher, but when you’re Mexican and you say things, you’re pretentious.”
Continuing with his previous comments, Iñarritu said:
“What the fuck does [‘superhero’] mean? It is a false and misleading conception, the superhero. Then, the way they apply violence to it, it’s completely right wing. If you look at the mentality of most of these movies, it’s really about rich, powerful people who will do good, who will kill evil. Philosophically, I don’t like them.
Marvel fans might suggest Alejandro G. Iñarritu take another look at heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil, who come from staunchly working-class backgrounds and strive to help their communities. Or even that he gives Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man another shows – the story criticizes Tony Stark’s selfish billionaire lifestyle and shows him aware of his responsibility to his fellow man.
Robert Downey Jr. made his final appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame. Here is the synopsis:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the ranks of the Avengers forces the remaining Avengers to take a final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame”.
