Joining the MCU in 2019, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel became the MCU’s deus ex machina. The film is set decades before the events of Avengers and follows Carol Danvers as she becomes embroiled in a conflict between two galactic alien races.

Despite the character’s immense strength, she barely featured in the MCU, appearing briefly in End of Game until his dramatic entrance at the end of the film. She also made appearances in Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsstill a far cry from Wong’s cameo record.
Brie Larson’s Training Hell for Captain Marvel
Similar to other actors who sign up for action and superhero movies, Brie Larson was also preparing for a crash course in training to Captain Marvel. During the process, she noted that being an introvert with asthma hampered her fitness process.

Brie Larson also noted that the reason for her training was pure fear as she was supposed to do her own stunts. She described the process in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, saying:
“So I started training and learned that I was actually a lot stronger than I thought and that my allergies were the cause of my asthma. So I just took medicine for asthma. allergies, and I could lift heavy weights and that really changed my life.
Since the film’s release, the actor has continued to train and become a workout freak. She’s gotten used to the diet, and her reasons for continuing go beyond her role as Captain Marvel.
Captain Marvel’s future in the MCU
The character is already configured to return to Wonders directed by Nia DaCosta alongside Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau, which was announced in 2019. In an interview with Inverse, the director hinted at the theme she’s incorporating into the film, she said:
“….my biggest thing was to make sure that I approached these characters as human beings and not necessarily as superheroes. I want to know more about Captain Marvel.

Given the upcoming flood of MCU productions, we can expect the character to have bigger appearances there, including the Secret Invasion series and to come avengers movies.
Wonders is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2023.
