Kathleen Kennedy Not Ready To Launch Another Star Wars Film Before 2024

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy won’t announce anything new star wars films at D23, because it would not yet be ready to give the green light to one of the star wars films currently in development.

Disney Fan Expo Event D23 is underway and fans will be looking forward to Disney, Marvel and star wars news over the weekend. However, new reports confirm that there are unlikely to be any updates on the upcoming star wars film projects.

Whereas star wars continues to dominate streaming, with series like Andor and the second season of The bad lot in the pipeline, Kathleen Kennedy apparently isn’t ready to drop another movie anytime soon.

According to Puck News, the only star wars upcoming D23 announcements will be for the upcoming Disney Plus series, as Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy isn’t ready to put another film project for the franchise into production just yet.

The last star wars the movie on the big screen was that of 2019 The Rise of Skywalker, which was poorly received by fans of the franchise. It is possible that the response to this film led Kennedy to delay the release of another film.

Puck News’ Matt Belloni report also posits wrong answers to Rian Johnson The Last Jedi and Patty Jenkins’ DC movie Wonder Woman 1984 may have motivated her to wait for Johnson’s expected green light star wars trilogy and Jenkins Thieves Squadron.

Consequently, no news star wars films should be released before 2024. This will mean a minimum gap of 5 years between The Rise of Skywalker and the next star wars installment to hit the big screen.

Whatever the reason for the decision, star wars continues to perform well on Disney Plus. The highly anticipated A thug prequel series Andor set to arrive later this month, along with season 2 of the anime The bad lot also on the way, ahead of a third season for the hugely popular live-action series The Mandalorian by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
