Hamish McLachlan has been candid about how difficult his newborn daughter Milla is coping with West Syndrome. McLachlan was upset that his wife Sophie called him so often while he was doing TV reporting on the Australian Open.
Because he is always cheerful and has a light-hearted attitude, he is often asked to be the master of ceremonies at public and private events.
Before returning to Australia in 2008, Hamish spent three summers in Europe organizing and calling sporting and charity events and games.
Hamish is a host for Seven Sport and a sports journalist. Since joining the Seven Network in January 2008, he has worked as a host, presenter and reporter at many different events.
For example, it has hosted AFL Game Day since its launch and has played in all Australian Open tennis tournaments until 2018.

Hamish McLachlan has been candid about how difficult it was for him and his wife when their newborn daughter Milla fell ill in January 2013.
Milla was the McLachlans’ miracle child. She was born on their third attempt to have a child through in vitro fertilization (IVF).
After Sophie had a serious car accident before meeting her husband, they were unsure if she would be able to get pregnant on her own. As part of her intensive treatment, Milla was to receive human growth hormone four times a day. This hormone is so strong that animals do not get it.
Her parents were told that Milla would have such a bad reaction the first time that she wouldn’t scream anymore.
Gillon McLachlan, who leads the AFL and who is her brother, was instrumental in giving Milla the human growth hormone.
Dr Freeman called Milla a ‘miracle’ after six months when she was among the 10% who survived.
Milla is now healthy and happy, and McLachlan enjoys spending time with her every day.

Dr Freeman says Milla’s recovery is a “miracle” and she is now a healthy seven-year-old girl.
McLachlan said: “The only other thing we could do was give him four of a hormone so powerful that people don’t like to give it to animals.” The hormone was given four times a day and the seizures “either stopped within six days, killing her or hurting her for life.
The first hormones made Milla’s mouth shut, and the side effects caused her face to swell up so much that she no longer looked like Milla.
Gillon McLachlan, who leads the AFL and is Hamish’s brother, was one of many who offered to help the parents.
After 14 seizure-free days, McLachlan began to feel hopeful, but Dr. Freeman told her that the next three months would be very important. Then, because he feared a relapse, he said six months would be a good sign of how well she was doing.

In 2010 Hamish McLachlan married Sophie McLachlan. Sophie McLachlan is a health and physical education teacher with a keen interest in health education.
She was born and raised in Auckland. She has a teaching license and has taken additional courses in health, wellness and nutrition. As a teacher, Sophie helps her students find their own values and beliefs that help them live healthy lives.
Sophie has been there for her husband every step of the way. McLachlan got his start in sports management in 1998 when he started working for Elite Sports Properties (ESP).
He was born in North Adelaide, South Australia and went to St. Peter’s College before earning a business degree from the University of Adelaide.
Hamish McLachlan joins Seven Network
In 2008, McLachlan joined the Seven Network and became the co-host of AFL Game Day, a new Sunday morning Australian rules football review show.
He also took a job as a matchday commentator for Triple M radio. He calls AFL matches on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. McLachlan is the host of AFL Game Day, a show that talks about and breaks down the previous weekend’s AFL round.
That same year, he organized Triple M’s Spring Racing Carnival.
In 2012, McLachlan joined the Seven Network’s AFL team. He started calling Saturday games with Basil Zempilas.
In 2015 he began working with Dennis Cometti to call only Sunday afternoon games in Melbourne. Later, McLachlan began hosting the network’s Friday night shows, which featured expert analysts and pre- and post-game analysis. Milla Sylvie McLachlan, daughter of Sophie McLachlan, has a rare brain disease called West Syndrome. There is an 80% chance that you will have brain damage for the rest of your life.
Hamish explained how difficult it was for his daughter to recover and he said that one night Milla had labors which Sophie filmed. They later showed the pediatrician the video and she suggested they go to the emergency room of a children’s hospital.
Later, they discovered that Milla had West Syndrome. For the next 31 days, she had to take steroid pills four times a day. The steroids made the child’s body react so much that she had several seizures.
Milla, on the other hand, fought the disease and got better. More so, the doctor called her a “miracle child”. Hamish thinks it’s a miracle that she’s still alive and can see how beautiful the world is.
