Katie’s mother, Holly Bankemper, is an attorney who lives with her husband, Collinsworth, in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Cris Collinsworth and Holly Bankemper met when she was a cheerleader at the University of Kentucky.
The United States Sun says that in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they both went to law school at the University of Cincinnati. They were still in college when they married on June 3, 1989. Momma Holly still works as a lawyer in the Cincinnati area.
Her mother, Bankemper, has mostly stayed out of the spotlight over the years. This could be because the family lives in a small town near Cincinnati, Ohio called Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

The early years of Cris Collinsworth
Collinsworth was born in Dayton, Ohio. His parents were Donetta Browning Collinsworth and Abraham Lincoln “Abe” Collinsworth, who was also born on Lincoln’s birthday. Abe, also known as “Lincoln”, was one of the leading scorers in Kentucky high school basketball history. He played for the “Fiddling Five” of the Kentucky Wildcats, who won the national championship in 1958. Donetta was a teacher and Abe taught and coached in high school before becoming principal and then superintendent of schools in Brevard County.
Cris’ family moved from Ohio to Melbourne, Florida when he was four years old. Then, in 1972, they moved to nearby Titusville. Cris and her brother went to Astronaut High School, where their father was the principal. Cris was excellent at many different sports for the Astronaut War Eagles, and in 1976, his senior year, he won the FHSAA Class 3A 100-yard dash state championship.

Collinsworth was recruited by college football teams throughout the South because he was big and quick. He went to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida on an athletic scholarship from coach Doug Dickey. Although Collinsworth was drafted as the first quarterback for the Gators’ optional offense, he made his college debut against the Rice Owls and threw a game-record 99-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Gaffney.
After his team’s option offense struggled against top defenses during Collinsworth’s rookie year in 1977, Coach Dickey changed Florida’s strategy from a heavy offense to a more balanced pro offense to 1978. Collinsworth was traded to wide receiver and former Gator quarterback Steve Spurrier was his new coaching job in his first year as a coach. Collinsworth has done a great job in his new job, though Florida’s offense hasn’t improved enough to save Dickey or his coaching staff’s jobs.
In 1978, 1979 and 1980, he was named to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) first team. In 1980, he was also named to the first team All-American and Academic All-America teams. Collinsworth was a senior captain on the 1980 Gator team, which went 8-4 after going 0-10-1 in 1979, Charlie Pell’s first year as Florida head coach. At the time, it was the biggest one-year change in NCAA Division I football history. In 1980, Collinsworth ended his college career by earning the MVP award for the Tangerine Bowl.
While in Florida, Collinsworth rushed for 210 extra yards and caught 120 passes for 1,937 yards. He scored 14 touchdowns catching passes, two touchdowns running the ball, one on a kickoff return, and two touchdowns throwing the ball. He also took 30 kickoffs for a total of 726 yards, or 24.2 yards on average per return. In 1981, he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the university, and that same year he was inducted into the Student Hall of Fame. He was named “Gator Great” and inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991.
The professional career of Cris Collinsworth
Collinsworth was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He played his entire eight-year NFL career with the Bengals. Collinsworth was the team’s leading receiver in his first year, and his 67 receptions were the most by a rookie receiver in league history. Collinsworth’s height of 6ft 5in often put him in bad situations against much smaller cornerbacks (1.96m). He was taller than everyone else and his speed made him a real threat.
Collinsworth caught five passes for 107 yards in Super Bowl XVI, but he also lost the ball when San Francisco defensive back Eric Wright tackled him in the second quarter. After the turnover, the 49ers ran for 92 yards to score, which helped San Francisco win 26-21.
Collinsworth signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL in 1985, but the deal was canceled because he had a weak ankle and couldn’t pass the physique. In his final game, Super Bowl XXIII, he returned to the Bengals and played for them for the remainder of the 1988 season. He caught three passes for 40 yards. In 107 games over eight NFL seasons, he caught 417 passes for 6,698 yards and scored 36 touchdowns. It was the end of his eight-year NFL career. Patrick Hughes, who was born and raised in Orlando, was the love of her life when they tied the knot in 2016.
