Originally a star on “American Chopper”, Paul Teutul Junior was the mastermind behind some of the most recognizable motorcycles sold at his father’s shop. However, those days are over, after an explosive fallout with his father. Paul became the pioneer of his own business, in direct competition with the family business. His name pops up frequently in the News Feed, and not always for positive reasons. Despite the growing success of his new venture, Paul Teutul Junior is constantly moving with the law – a fact that has greatly disappointed fans of the Discovery Channel Show.

Early life and family
Paul Michael Teutul Junior was born on October 2, 1974 in New York City, USA to Paul John Senior and Paulie Teutul who are of mixed German, Italian and Austrian ancestry. Although his parents later divorced, Paul has three younger siblings, brothers Daniel and Michael still work in the family business, while the youngest, his sister Cristin, works as a nurse. Extremely creative from an early age, Paul Jnr began his apprenticeship in his father’s steel company when he was only 12 years old. He quickly became familiar with the equipment and found he had a taste for mechanics. Before long, it was designing and manufacturing motorcycles.
Education
While most of his skills were developed in his father’s factory, Paul also got involved in school programs to help hone his abilities. One such program was the Cooperative Educational Services Council, which catered to his unusual creativity and abilities. In fact, it was Paul’s prowess that made his father even consider opening his own motorcycle manufacturing business.
Career
family affair
When he signed up, Paul Jnr knew exactly where to go and where his heart was, which was in Orange County Ironwork, the business his father started, and allowed him to apprentice as a child.

If he expected favoritism because of his family connection, he must have been disappointed. Paul Jnr worked exceptionally hard to establish himself in his father’s business and was eventually appointed head of the railing workshop.
During the last years of the business, Paul Snr began experimenting with building motorcycles in his spare time. Sensing his son’s ability and passion for the task, the two established Orange County Choppers in 1999. The business would allow them to design and sell motorcycles with their chopper style and quality, and would continue to be a huge hit.
“American Chopper”
“American Chopper” was a show sculpted entirely around the drama and innovation of Orange County Choppers.
While many docuseries are criticized for being overly scripted and synthesizing tension for excitement, the tension in “American Chopper” was real. Part of the appeal of the show was the opposing ideals and design styles of Paul Snr and Paul Jnr, but that opposition became all too real when the two had a massive fight in 2008 and Paul Jnr was fired.
Although Paul would have liked nothing better than to wash his hands of the whole affair, the network threatened to end the show if he didn’t return, so he reappeared on Orange County Choppers as than an entrepreneur. However, the tension was too great and he officially ended his affiliation with the company in 2009.
There was a brief spinoff of the show when he later started his own company, but he eventually cut ties with the Discovery Channel and then TLC when the show moved.
Paul Jr Designs
Wanting to eliminate any old affiliation with family-owned Orange County Choppers, Paul was ready to start his own business in 2010 as soon as the one-year non-compete clause expired. Paul Jnr Designs had its eye on more than motorcycles, but that quickly became the focus of the company. Paul had no qualms about openly challenging his father’s business, promising to deliver better quality and design at lower, more affordable prices.
The company almost exclusively sells bicycles, with some branded clothing and other gear. It was while running Paul Jnr Designs that he wrote his biography, “The Build: Designing My Life of Choppers, Family, and Faith”. The book is a call to action, a call to embrace one’s divine talents and pave the way to success.
Private life
Family
Due to the inextricable nature of business and family, Paul Jnr’s relationship with his family is extremely tenuous and fraught with pitfalls. His animosity towards his father has spread to the rest of the family, and it has a lot more to do with their lawyers than with them.
However, Paul Jnr created his own family.
Prior to their wedding, Paul Jnr and Rachael Biestar appeared on the TLC show, “Say Yes to the Dress!”, in which Rachael got to choose a wedding dress from one of New York’s most famous boutiques. The two wed on August 20, 2010 and welcomed a son, Hudson Seven Teutul, five years later on February 3, 2015.
Prosecutions
The first lawsuit was brought in 2005 against Paul Jnr, but also his father and his brother Michael, brought by his father’s associate who had financed “American Choppers”. Tom Derbyshire has revealed that after funding the show, Paul Snr manipulated the paperwork so he didn’t receive any of his shares.
This lawsuit lasted for years and ended in 2018 with the bankruptcy of Paul Snr.
Perhaps the most famous of the lawsuits was filed by Paul Snr against his son in 2010 demanding that Paul Snr buy out Paul Jnr’s 20% stake in the company. The lawsuit sparked a mass of legal proceedings, with Paul Jnr winning a lower court verdict that he did not have to sell his shares, instead waiting for a reasonable price to be greedy. In retaliation for his father’s lawsuit, Paul Jnr filed another lawsuit, seeking $100 million in damages and accusing his father of major fraud. There have been various other legal wrangles over the years, but these remain the biggest of the cases.

Having long since left his reality TV days behind him, Paul is fully committed to the success of Paul Jnr Designs. Whichever side you take in the narrative, there’s no denying that the celebrity has an irresistible appeal, a fact he’s capitalized on, branding and doling out merchandise to spread his message. While it’s unclear how much he was paid for his book deal, the sensationalism around his story puts the possibilities in the upper realms.
