The MCU may have found its new ‘Infinity Stones’ in Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi for Kang the Conqueror to become the next Thanos

When Marvel introduced Kang the Conqueror, little did we know that the sneaky, evasive, and dangerous variant of He Who Remains would return as the main antagonist of the entire saga that follows. Seeming relatively harmless in the face of what followed the latter’s death, the all-time master manipulator and puppeteer was no small opponent for the likes of Sylvie Laufeydottir. But now that he’s dead and his variant, Kang the Conqueror reigns in his place, the fate of the MCU is indeed heading down a dark and bloody path.

What motivates Kang the Conqueror in the MCU?

Marvel’s first three phases were all gearing up for the big showdown of End of Game. Thanos was a looming presence who made himself known as well as his inevitable arrival after the end of MCU Phase 1. His inherent involvement has rarely been discussed and that too, halfway through the 22-film saga. The only ominous foreshadowing of what is to come was hinted at through Tony Stark’s vision in Civil war and his “it’s the end of the game” argument in Age of Ultron.

But Kang the Conqueror paraded his entry into the follow-up saga through the Phase 4 Disney+ series, Loki. His coming was told as a storyline, and the power Kang wields was felt through the desperation of Loki, the same god who refused to bow down to a tyrant like Thanos. The series’ final depiction of the erasure of an entire organization’s history was the final nail in the coffin that finally announced that the next adversary is not one who can be beaten by battle and sacrifice. The coming war will require mastering the control of supernatural elements that have already begun to be presented to us in Phase 4.

Kang the conqueror wants to become the big bad

Of course, Kang the Conqueror is an entity that would want something even more ruthless than the extinction of half the universe. Having sought to conquer as many universes as possible during the Multiversal War, Kang ultimately seeks complete authority over all time. And for such an ambitious mission, weapons and non-terrestrials are needed. Rumors suggest that Phase 4 subtly introduced us to the new and improved versions of Infinity Stones and their powers via Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

We already know Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel’s Bangle who holds the power to manipulate matter and time. The Ten Rings of Shang-Chi are also powerful weapons that have been shown to enhance strength, grant near-immortality, and maintain a telepathic bond with the wearer. The appearance of such powerful items and their deep introduction into Phase 4 cannot be an accident and if the story serves well, any colored energy emitting power items are only for use by the superhero with no hidden evil forces at play. Perhaps then the Bracelet and the Ten Rings are as intrinsically tied to the Multiversal Saga as the Infinity Stones were to the Infinity Saga.
