When the first trailers of Thor: Love and Thunder were released, fans were confident that the supervillain’s portrayal would be done justice. Coming out of the Taika Waititi-directed premise, while many had a deluge of criticism directed at the oversimplification of God Butcher’s storyline – especially in direct contrast to the comics – others thought Bale’s performance was the saving grace of the film.

Recently, the actor opened up about why he took on the role of Gorr. Turns out it was his family that pushed him to do it – and we can’t be grateful enough. When news broke of Christian Bale as the leading antagonist in the film directed by Taika Waititi, people were intrigued to see what the man, who notably starred in companies like American Psycho, Shaft, Public Enemies, etc. could bring to the table.
As an actor who knows a thing or two about portraying nefarious characters, Bale completely portrayed the role to perfection – especially with the minimal material he had to work with. To think that there could have been a possibility of Christian Bale not playing Gorr is simply unimaginable.

So when the actor revealed that it was his family that pushed him to take on the role of the MCU’s villain, many fans had the utmost gratitude to express. Here’s what the actor had to say about it:
“I explained that meant leaving LA, and my kids were like, ‘Let’s go!’ It’s the only movie my whole family said I should do.
Gorr’s portrayal in the film was favored by many and resented by some. Many felt that the lack of precise comic design got in the way of the essence of the God Butcher. Others have complained about the screen time given to Bale’s supervillain. A few said the MCU antagonist’s storyline was disappointing and was mostly overshadowed by the film’s other whimsical and flimsy aspects.

Talking about the notions surrounding the God Butcher, Bale justified that the nickname associated with the villain itself speaks to who he is. “Right away you know he’s a serial killer bent on killing gods.” claimed the actor. However, the Little woman alum went on to point out the underlying complexities of Gorr – whose story, in his own words, is a “attractive” a.
When the Thor 4 antagonist went through turbulent emotions of confusion and displeasure, he reached a “Epiphany”. While its ideological pursuit may be conflicting, it ends up coming across as understandable.

Chris Hemsworth, to add to the convoluted nature of Gorr, had the following to say:
“There is so much drama and madness around Gorr, but Christian Bale managed to draw attention to every moment. You can’t take your eyes off him. The character is fascinating because Gorr is right like all good villains He may not be going about it the right way, but there’s empathy in the script, and Christian brought so much more layers and depth to Gorr.
Therefore, there is no denying that Christian Bale was made to play the role of God’s Butcher. Previously, Kevin Feige and Taika Waititi also testified to the 48-year-old actor’s genius, which basically encapsulated what the directors and writers had in mind for the MCU’s iteration of the villain.
