Captain America: New World Order will mark a new chapter for the superhero in the MCU. The film will star Sam Wilson as the new shield-wielder after Steve Rogers’ superhero passes his mantle to him in Avengers: Endgame. It will be led by The Cloverfield Paradox fame Julius Onah. But it seems some people are still troubled by a black man who takes up the superhero mantle. Addressing this issue, the director explained why they should watch the film first before passing judgment.

Anthony Mackie’s Falcon Has Already Been Featured As Captain America In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. Similar to our modern world, the inhabitants of the fictional MCU have also been shown to have issues with a man of color taking over in this series.

Anthony Mackie’s role as Captain America has been criticized since day one of his announcement. Chris Evans handled the role so well that many people don’t even want to look at the Vibranium Shield in someone else’s hands.

At the recent D23 Expo, a bandwagon of MCU updates was announced to the public. Speaking to Cinemablend at the event, director Julius Onah came forward to support the upcoming film. According to him, people should watch the movie first and then critique it based on that:
“First of all, wait until you see this movie.”
Continuing his statement, Julius Onah said:
“But secondly, you know, I think for anyone wondering why someone like Anthony Mackie or Sam Wilson should be at the center of all of this, it comes down to what Captain America stands for.”
Julius Onah explained that Captain America represents what is right and what is wrong. He thinks there’s nothing to criticize other than celebrating having Sam Wilson as the next captain in the MCU, which is a big breakthrough in itself:
“It’s so beautiful to have a character who stands up for what’s right and to think of a world that everyone is a part of, there’s no denying that’s fair. That’s exactly what Captain is. America So there’s really nothing to spoil, there’s only things to celebrate, and all of these people should feel welcome to celebrate that.
Hopefully, public perception can change for the film and the character if Julius Onah manages to weave a fantastical story around our new Captain America.
