In 2018, after eleven years, the world saw a Gary Ross-led attempt to reinvigorate the commercially triumphant series. However, the reception Ocean 8 was lukewarm at best. It was obvious to the audience that nothing could rise to the brilliance of Soderbergh.
With the latest rumors hinting at the return of the original cast for the next part of the series, many have wondered if the director will be making a return as well.
George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon will reunite again

While the original cast had attested to how the 2007 effort would mark the end of their comedic heist adventures, new sources have come forward to explain how the oceans The franchise is too popular, even to this day, for an opportunity like this to be missed. Whereas fourteen from the ocean is a speculated affair for a while now, the actors and their busy schedules prevented them from committing to the premise. However, that has now changed.
According to these reports, the following information was detailed:
“…Finally the right team for the job came together to make it a huge success and the main stars thought it would be a lot of fun to come back. The franchise is hugely popular and the brilliant storyline was an opportunity too good to miss.
In 2007, the growth of the franchise after the 2001 remake and its two sequels was staggering to witness. Commercial blockbusters had managed to entertain the masses for years.
Much to everyone’s dismay, in 2008, the news of actor Bernie Mac, who played Frank Catton, who died at the age of 50 had left a gaping void in the hearts of the other talents involved in the Soderbergh trilogy.

Don Cheadle, who played Basher Tarr, and George Clooney, who played team leader Danny Ocean, have said how much they would miss their co-star’s presence. Cheadle even hinted at how a sequel was shelved after Mac’s death. In his own words, “Bernie came by, and pretty soon we were like, “No, we don’t want to do that.”
A long time has passed. It wasn’t until last year that Matt Damon hinted that he would like to return to a oceans sequel provided that the director Soderbergh is willing. “It would always be Steven Soderbergh if there was a story.” Damon also touched on how the franchise lost some of its full members. “We’re an exhausted gang now”, is what he said on Good Morning America.
Ocean’s 8 and a lackluster effort

Gary Ross’ take on the heist comedy effort, while a fairly ambitious effort, has made many longtime fans wary of the premise. People were intrigued to see what the all-female cast would bring to the universe shaped by Soderbergh. Unfortunately, the film now stands with a 68% RottenTomatoes rating from critics. It also has a dark viewership rating of 45% to consider.
Commercially, the film could not fare well compared to its predecessors. While critical connoisseurs favored and praised its entertaining qualities, the general public was not overly impressed. Many thought the cast, completely star-studded with amazing talents, were given moderate and mediocre material to work with.

This led to many fans wanting to see the original team back in action. Luckily for them, their prayers might have been heard. With fourteen from the ocean being probably a fruitful possibility, as the latest reports claim, people will soon see whether or not Soderbergh returns to embellish the effort with his creative vision.
We just can’t wait.
