Who is Jewel “Faye” Payne?
On December 11, 2007, Jason reportedly found Nichole dead from a gunshot wound and called 911 to report his discovery. She and Austin were found dead in the garage, Austin having died of a gunshot wound. She had been shot in the neck. A huge life insurance policy turned out to be Jason’s motivation to kill Nichole, as the investigation revealed. Following circumstantial evidence pointing in that direction, law enforcement officials came to the conclusion that he staged the scene after killing Nichole and Austin.
During the time Jason was held in prison, he was allowed to phone his mother, Jewel, and their conversations were monitored and recorded. During one of their conversations, Jason asked his mother a question, asking whether or not she kept a pair of the identical item in her bedside cabinet drawer. He was careful with his choice of words and asked her to search for hard plastic objects and then destroy them. Jewel remarked, “I have the footage of y’all playing Nacogdoches” (Texas). You and Nichole.
After that, Jason communicated with his mother saying, “You had three tapes. There was one of Nichole and me together, and then there were two that had nothing to do with anything. After Jewel informed him that she hid the tapes in the closet, he asked her to destroy them by tearing them into pieces and setting them on fire. Later in the episode, Jewel admitted that she lied to her son about where the tapes were and never found out about them. She said she didn’t know what was on them and regretted not asking her son more about it at the time.
Where is Jewel “Faye” Payne today?
Jewel was taken into custody in October 2016 in connection with the same case as Jason, who was already serving a life sentence for the double murders he committed. She was accused of attempting to falsify the testimony of a witness. The police were told by Jewel’s niece that on one occasion Jewel expressed an interest in meeting her and she agreed to drive with him. Their conversation was recorded on the niece’s recording device. In it, Jewel discussed finding someone to threaten an emergency medical technician who attended the scene of Nichole and Austin’s crime and later testified in court.
Jewel wished the EMT was threatened in order to retract what she had previously said. On top of that, she asked the niece to ask the EMT whether or not they had “a child or someone you could threaten to hurt.” Not only that, but there were also phone calls between Jason and Jewel in which they discussed seeing the niece. Not only that, but there were also phone calls. Apparently, having pleaded guilty to witness tampering in October 2017, Jewel was due 10 years probation in addition to five hundred hours of community service for her actions. Since then, Jewel, now in her late seventies or early eighties, has shunned public attention. It appears she makes her home in Logansport, Louisiana, but beyond that, there isn’t much information available about what she’s up to at the moment.
Murderer’s mother convicted of attempted witness tampering
Jewel D. Payne is currently being held on $250,000 bail at the Wood County Jail. She is accused of having gone too far in her desire to protect her children, which led to her arrest. A mother will do almost anything to protect her children.
Jewel Faye Davenport Payne, 73 and living in Logansport, Louisiana, is the mother of Jason Thad Payne, who was convicted of first-degree murder in March in Wood County District Court. The trial in this case took place in March. Payne was convicted of murder in connection with the shooting deaths of his wife, Nichole Payne, and son from a previous marriage, Austin Wages, which occurred in December 2011. Although an appeal is being prepared for Jason Payne’s case, he is currently serving a life sentence in the Stiles Unit at Beaumont.
His mother is accused of trying to recruit a relative to find someone to threaten an emergency medical technician who responded to the scene of the murder and testified at trial this spring. The threat was allegedly directed against the victim’s mother. On October 6, Jewel Payne was arrested and sent to the Wood County Jail. She is being held for attempting to tamper with a witness.
According to an affidavit that supported the establishment of probable cause, Jewel Payne contacted her niece before one of her visits to her elderly parents in Bossier City, Louisiana, and told her she wanted to speak to her. This information was included in the document establishing probable cause. They went for a drive and at that time the niece, who had acted suspiciously regarding the meeting, recorded an audio recording on the cell phone she was using.
According to the affidavit, Wood County Sheriff’s Department investigator Kyle Henson, who knew Jewel Payne and her voice, listened to the recording in which she talks about EMT. Jewel Payne was a witness in this case. She said the EMT testified about the condition of the body of one of the victims upon arrival, and that she believed that this testimony was relevant to the trial. She also said she considered the testimony remarkable. The next thing she did was to urge the niece to “hire a man to go to this lady…and scare her.” to let her know that you know she lied and make an effort to intimidate her into retracting her statement. According to the reports, she also advised the niece to “look at the lady” before meeting her, stating that “that way you would know if she had a child or someone you could threaten to hurt.”
In addition to this, it is said that Jewel Payne agreed with her niece’s assessment that the action requested of her constituted illegal activity and that she believed it to be a crime.
On October 6, members of the rs executed a search warrant issued by a district judge in Desoto Parish, Louisiana. The order had been received from the judge. Investigators took possession of a digital recorder as well as letters written by Jason Payne to his mother.
The affidavit submitted in support of the search warrant application includes details regarding Jason Payne’s repeated phone calls to his mother, during which he discusses his niece’s visit with her. According to the complaint, Jewel Payne is heard on two of the calls saying things like, “I’m going to try…to do my best” and “I’ll do what I have to do.”
In a subsequent phone call from Jason Payne, his mother informed him that her niece was not accepting the request and that she would ‘think about something’ and ‘find someone’ to fulfill her responsibilities. .
