The upcoming movie is not part of the Miyagi verse

The Cobra Kai series serves as a direct sequel to The Karate Kid franchise that started in 1984 and ended with four movies in 1994. Understanding they are called the Miyagi Verse. The series focuses on the lives of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence after 30 years from the original film. Although another movie starring Jackie Chan was released in 2010, it acted as a completely different plot and focused more on Kung Fu. If reports are to be believed, this new movie is not related to it.

The news came shortly after Sony announced the movie, and a fan asked the show’s creators if he would be in it. The show’s co-creator Jon Hurwitz said he and the others would be happy to make a movie about the Miyagi verse but that’s another thing.

The announcement has already generated a lot of backlash. Specifically, they don’t know how this movie can be an active part of the franchise without being connected to Cobra Kai. Although the last movie in the franchise released in 2010 followed a different story and acted like a reboot, there’s little chance that movie will follow a similar path as well.
