The late actor Chadwick Boseman made his MCU debut in 2016 to box office success Captain America: Civil War. He took up the mantle of Black Panther, then later in his own solo movie of the same title, he was decorated as King of Wakanda. Boseman’s role as King T’Challa made Black Panther Highest-grossing Marvel movie of all time Spider-Man: No Coming Home.

After the actor’s untimely passing, everyone including his family, cast, crew, friends and fans around the world were devastated. He had battled cancer throughout his run with the franchise and sadly he is no longer with us.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever should be the conclusion of Marvel’s Phase 4 and is a highly anticipated film with the representation and portrayal of culture as shown by Ryan Coogler.

Marvel seemed to be in a dilemma on how to move forward following the passing of Chadwick Boseman. The decision of whether or not to recast the role of King T’Challa or make a sequel has been put forward. However, in the end, it was chosen to let Boseman hold his Black Panther title and instead make a movie to honor his legacy.

The film must now be a tribute to the character and the deceased actor. While it may have seemed like the hardest decision to make, the cast as well as Ryan Coogler claim it was actually Chadwick Boseman himself who pushed them to do the sequel without him.

The actors found their motivation to move forward with the words of Chadwick Boseman
Actress Letitia Wright says she found it extremely difficult to find motivation while mourning the loss of Boseman, who was like a brother to her. With the success that Black Panther had obtained, it was imminent for them to move on but for the actress playing Shuri, it was painful to be on the set without her brother.
“It was something I had struggled with for months. And the confidence that Ryan felt [after] he heard Chadwick give him that gentle push to keep going, and the way Ryan would voice it was bigger than all of us, and Chad would have wanted us to keep going really encouraged me.

Wright said Ryan Coogler heard Boseman nudge him to make the movie without him and that was enough for him and the cast to move forward with the sequel in his memory.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will feature Chadwick Boseman
Seeing how much Black Panther was, the sequel pushes the hype even further. After the critical decisions made by Ryan Coogler, fans are even more curious about which direction they chose to take the story.

After it was announced that King T’Challa would indeed not be recast, it was clarified that we could sense both his presence and that of Chadwick Boseman throughout the film. He would be an important part of the film and it would represent his legacy and the character he so beautifully brought to life.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released in theaters on November 22, 2022.
