Erling started his football career at the academy in his home town of Bryne when he was five years old.

Haaland has signed a five-year contract with Red Bull Salzburg
Reigning Austrian Bundesliga winners Red Bull Salzburg announced on August 19, 2019 that Haaland would join the team on January 1, 2019, signing a five-year contract.
On January 18, 2020, Erling made his debut for Dortmund in a game against FC Augsburg. He entered the game as a second-half substitute and scored a hat-trick in just 23 minutes, helping Dortmund to a 5–3 win.
He set a record for being the fastest football player to accomplish this mark, as he was the first footballer in the Bundesliga to score five goals in the first two games of the season. Likewise, he received the Player of the Month award for the Bundesliga.
Haaland has competed for Norway in many age categories while representing the country. He led his team to win against Scotland by scoring a hat-trick in their 5–4 triumph which helped them qualify for the 2018 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
On 22 July 2018, he converted a penalty against Italy in the final of the competition, which ended in a 1–1 draw. Likewise, he scored nine goals as the Norway Under-20 team beat Honduras 12-0 at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Lublin, Poland on May 30, 2019.
