What’s next for Prince Daemon Targaryen and Lady Laena Velaryon
Dragon House episode 5 saw the wedding festivities begin for Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon. This united the two great houses of Targaryen and Velaryon. The Velaryon made their grand entrance at the party dressed in beautiful clothes with gold embroidery. We got to see an adult Lady Laena Velaryon, Laenor Velaryon, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, and the rest of their family led by Master of Driftmark, Lord Corlys Velaryon. The episode was also the last we will see from Theo Nate as Laenor Velaryon. And the first and only time we will see Savannah Steyn as Laena Velaryon. During the celebration, there was a moment of playful flirtation between Prince Daemon Targaryen and Lady Laena Velaryon.
As they sat at the main royal table during the feast right across from each other, they both exchanged glances. They even ended up meeting on the dance floor, but briefly. Prince Daemon compliments Lady Laena in his typical charming way. Lady Laena, on the other hand, praises him for being a dashing prince, knight, and dragon rider. She even claims that he is every young girl’s dream and suggests that they get to know each other. The moment is certainly cut short as Daemon is again attracted to his niece, Princess Rhaenyra. It seems he cannot stay away from her even during her marriage. But it’s interesting to see what awaits Prince Daemon and Lady Laena.
The death of Lady Rhea Royce
House of the Dragon episode 5 begins with a woman in armor riding a horse through a field in the valley. We quickly discover that it is Lady Rhea Royce, Daemon’s wife or rather the bronze female dog as he puts it so well. She meets her cousin while returning from her hunt where she claimed a deer. However, on her journey home, she is confronted by a low-key, sleazy man in long gray robes that cover her identity. It is none other than Prince Daemon, her husband. She skips his sarcastic remarks and rightly so, considering she heard about Daemon’s comment about how even Vale’s sheep are prettier. Lady Rhea finally realizes Daemon’s true intentions of returning to the Valley. She reaches for her bow but Daemon manages to tip the horse and she falls.
Daemon picks up a rock and although the scene cuts right there, refraining from showing his gory actions, we know what happened next. While visiting Lord Corlys at High Tide, the King learns of Lady Rhea’s death. His neck and skull had been crushed. People concluded that it was a hunting accident.
What’s next for Prince Daemon
Immediately after his exchange with Lady Laena, we see Demon approaches Rhaenyra. It’s pretty clear that his action in murdering his wife, Lady Rhea, was not born out of hatred alone. He has a lot up his sleeve and it was a strategic play he made. He proudly tells Rhaenyra that his marriage has recently dissolved. We also see him telling Lady Rhea’s cousin that he plans to inherit Runestone after his wife. Since they had no offspring, her inheritance would pass to her husband, Prince Daemon. He’s clearly not done making trouble and we reckon his brother King Viserys and Ser Lyonel Strong have the slightest idea that Daemon did something to Lady Rhea.
Demon and Lady Laena
Those who have read the books will know that Lady Laena is Daemon’s second wife. She even gives birth to two of her children, the twins Rhaena and Baela Targaryen. The last we heard of Laena and her marriage proposal was when she was engaged to a son of the Sealord of Braavos. In the books, Daemon had challenged the Sealord’s son to a duel in which he defeated and then killed him. In this way, he won Lady Laena’s hand in marriage in order to strengthen his position and power. After today’s episode, it looks like the show will be heading in the same direction.
