Babli Bouncer movie review contains spoilers

We are introduced to Babli, a resident of a small town on the outskirts of Delhi, in the novel Babli Bouncer by Madhur Bhandarkar. The story is told by Vijay Raaz, who explains that the men of this village are often muscular individuals who find employment as bouncers in Delhi’s nightclubs. We meet Babli, the only woman in the hamlet who is a bodybuilder, and watch her work towards her goal of becoming a bouncer.

On paper, the idea of a young woman from a rural area working as a doorwoman in a nightclub in Delhi sounds hugely empowering. On the other hand, the love story that was portrayed on TV turned out to be contrived and emotionless. The biggest factor in Babli’s decision to become a bouncer was a man. Yes, when we first meet her, she is a woman who has no other professional goal than to get married and start a family.

When Babli falls in love with Viraj, her teacher’s son, she develops an ambitious streak (Abhishek Bajaj). While Viraj stays in Delhi, Babli decides to work in Delhi. She finds herself in a makeshift position when she is hired to work as a bouncer in a bar in Delhi. It is not Babli’s ambition that drives the plot forward; rather, it is his desire for a romantic relationship. It just doesn’t make sense.

Babli does not take his job very seriously at all. The challenges a bouncer faces in a traditionally male-dominated field are never mentioned in the narrative. In most underdog stories, the protagonist faces significant obstacles that test them. In the story told by Bhandarkar, Babli faces her greatest obstacle in the form of the young man she believes to be her true love.

Babli’s score is also a failure. Babli makes the decision to change her behavior for the “better” after things don’t go according to her plan. It is absurd that a lady who seems so powerful, intelligent and fierce is so influenced by a boy she barely knows that she would decide to change because of him. You don’t get the impression that Babli is particularly passionate about her job as a bouncer. This worried me, especially since the title of the film included the word “bouncer”. Even though there is a scene in which she helps someone, it was only done so that the story could have a happy ending.

Despite the movie having significant flaws, there are certain scenes that will make you laugh out loud or give you warm blurs. The romantic relationship that Babli shares with his father, played by Saurabh Shukla, warms the viewer’s heart. Tamannaah gets credit for playing such an offbeat character, as Babli is very entertaining with her performance. At first I had a lot of trouble understanding the accent, but over time I was able to get used to it more and more.

There are a few comedic sequences that Bhatia is in, and she gives a great performance in all of them. His personality was known to be hilarious, notorious, and lively. However, the makers have ruined its charm by repeatedly reminding us that it is humorous, burps loudly and eats a lot. It completely rocked the character.

The beautiful natural landscape of the village is well captured by Himman Dhamija’s camera, which makes us transfixed. The club moments are also very well recorded, giving us an idea of how incredibly colorful life can be in Delhi. Madhur has used a number of Bollywood songs including “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu”, “Marjawa” and others. Unfortunately, the film’s score evokes no strong emotional reaction from the audience.

Babli Bouncer Review: Final Thoughts

The Tamannaah Bhatia vehicle, which Madhur Bhandarkar led, has, in general, its most salient moments. However, there is nothing new in the plot. We’ve seen better underdog stories where the heart and passion were pointed in the right direction, like Gully Boy, Iqbal, and Lagaan, among others. The fashion director made many attempts to make us laugh, and sometimes he succeeded. However, if the main heroine is driven to achieve her goals for or because of a male protagonist, then the narrative does not uplift or empower women.
