You’ve heard of Red Hulk, but what about Red She-Hulk?

I’m sure you’ve all heard that Red Hulk aka Thunderbolt Ross is making his Thunderbolts debut. But there is another character, Red She-Hulk, who is an extremely interesting and awesome villain in Marvel comics. And she’s none other than the daughter of General Thunderbolt Ross and Bruce Banner’s first love, Betty Ross. So let’s explore who exactly this villain is and if we’ll see her in the MCU.

Who is Red She-Hulk

Red She-Hulk is a reincarnation of Betty Ross and is a She-Hulk’s villainous counterpart. When Betty Ross was alive, MODOK exposed her to insane amounts of gamma radiation in hopes of creating a villain strong enough to defeat the Hulk. It was then that she became the unbalanced and monstrous Harpy. As Harpy, she tracked down and attacked the Hulk engaging in an epic battle. Somehow, Bruce managed to cure her of this disease. But in the future, she dies from radiation poisoning as a result of her longtime association with the Hulk. And this is where the story begins. Betty is soon reincarnated and becomes the Red She-Hulk. As Red She-Hulk, she was an evil mercenary and even collaborated with the Intelligence who were named in episode 6 of She-Hulk. She fought Wolverine, She-Hulk and even captured Hank Pym.

What are his powers?

While her powers are mostly similar to She-Hulk’s, there are a few that stand out. One is the acidic saliva she used against Wolverine during their fight. Another is the ability to fire energy blasts from his hands. She also has very sharp claws and talons. Red She-Hulk can fly using the wings on his back and this gives him a good advantage over other Hulks. However, her greatest strength is the fact that she is confident, bitter, and fundamentally unbalanced. This makes her more dangerous as she doesn’t care about the destruction she causes or the many casualties. Other than that, she has the usual superhuman strength, durability, stamina, agility, speed, and an enhanced healing factor. Another power that seems interesting is his strong sense of smell. She used this ability to track down Bruce Banner using only his scent.

Betty Ross met Bruce Banner while working with her father on a gamma bomb project. They fell in love with each other much to the dismay of her father who did not approve of Banner as a suitable partner for his daughter. However, that didn’t stop them from falling in love. While Bruce was hesitant at first because of his alter ego Hulk, he eventually gave in to his emotions and wanted to marry her. Obviously, you can trust a villain to ruin the wedding. She was later transformed into a Harpy whose sole mission was to find and kill the Hulk.

Nonetheless, they eventually had a successful marriage once she was cured of the vicious harpy. After becoming Red She-Hulk, she was mostly on the wrong side of the law, but she always had a soft spot for Bruce. In fact, she helped him improve his relationship with his son Skaar and helped him several times in battle. They had a rocky relationship but always supported each other.

Will she join the MCU?

It is quite possible that she will join the MCU in the near future. The MCU is already bringing back many characters who debuted in The Incredible Hulk and haven’t been seen since. For example, Abomination has already appeared in She-Hulk and could appear in the Thunderbolts and The Leader should be the villain of Captain America: New World Order. So there’s a high likelihood that the MCU will also bring back Betty Ross and show off her Red She-Hulk character arc.

Additionally, with Jennifer Walters joining the MCU and Hulk being set up for a solo venture, Red She-Hulk, who fought them both, is also set to join. With the death of Natasha aka Black Widow who was Bruce’s former love, there is an opportunity to explore another one. Betty Ross was actually not only her first love, but also arguably her best.
