Being the first season to air after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Season 5 will be released on Netflix on November 9. The upcoming season was announced at TUDUM 2022, a fan event that covers many Netflix productions.
Who are the new actors of season 5?
Since the series has moved forward in time, we’ll see new actors take over the roles of certain characters as they grow. Around the events of Princess Diana’s tragic death, we’ll see Elizabeth Debicki portray the character in Season 5.

Alongside Elizabeth Debicki, we’ll see Dominic West joining the cast as the Prince of Wales and Jonathan Pryce as the Duke of Edinburgh. Some other actors include Bertie Carvel, Jonny Lee Miller, Lesley Manville and Senan West.
Imelda Staunton as Queen of England?
Along with the new cast, we’ll also see Imelda Staunton join the cast of The crown for Season 5. Well known for playing the villainous Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter movies, fans found her pitch-perfect and at times chilling performance in The order of the Phoenix.

She will be the third actress to play Queen Elizabeth II, after Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. The actress commented on her casting and the show’s story in a statement, she said:
“As an actor, it was a joy to see how Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I’m truly honored to join such an exceptional creative team and lead The Crown at its conclusion.

Fans commented on the casting and noted how much they couldn’t help but remember her as Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. While most praised her for the casting, some noted how awkward her presence can be due to her previous films.
