Up until the middle of Phase 3 and since Phase 4, the MCU has faced a lot of negativity when it comes to the portrayal of female superheroes, whether it’s a female-centric movie or of an appropriate representation in particular. All of that changed, however, with the introduction of the character and his movie titled Captain Marvel.
Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson and directed by Nia DaCost has undoubtedly gotten its fair share of mixed reviews, but what it did is sure to pave the way for other women in the MCU to shine as well. Without forgetting all the solo projects in which they were able to showcase themselves afterwards.
Captain Marvel paved the way as a true team leader
The scene in question here is the very example of Avengers: Endgame where Captain Marvel and every female superhero ever introduced in the franchise, except for Black Widow who had heroically sacrificed herself in an earlier scene, band together against Thanos’ own army so that Spider- Man can carry the Infinity Gauntlet Away.
The scene, although short-lived, was very impactful and also gave us a glimpse of the A-Force. The A-Force was part of the Secret Wars that took place in the comics and is set in the MCU due to hit theaters in late 2025. It was an all-female team, consisting of Captain Marvel as well as the She-Hulk newly introduced.

Nia DaCosta Shares Her Take on Captain Marvel’s Current Position
The director of captain marvel 2, or better known as Wonders, Nia DaCosta, in a recent interview with Weekly entertainment spoke about how the scene felt about her. She commented on how the scene itself had a lot of power, but it didn’t last as long as she would have liked. The few seconds of his presence made the scene shorter and very easy to miss in the blink of an eye.
“One time I got the chills, but I was also really annoyed. I was like, ‘Two hours of this, please.’ “
She went on to explain how happy she was to direct a film with not one, but three female leads. Wonders should have Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel. The film is said to offer balance to Carol Danvers because from Kamala Khan’s side, she only gets adoration and admiration while from Monica Rambeau’s side, their relationship turns out to be very sketchy. She explains how, with the rocky ride at the start, the three will learn to work together and for a kind of sisterhood.
Nia DaCosta might not be the only one who says she also wants to see more of those amazing moments with the newly introduced superheroes.

Brie Larson’s opinions as well as well-made female portrayal
Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson remarked that she would very much like not to have the full weight of the character on her shoulders. Stating that Captain Marvel’s mantle might be too heavy to carry on its own.
“I think that’s part of what Carol’s journey in this field is about understanding that…changing the world can never be on one person. Everyone has to play their part, and that’s a big part of what this story is about.
Although some fans say the scene of Avengers: Endgame felt unnatural, much too short or forced in general; the tides for the same could turn with the MCU’s Phase 4. Introducing characters like Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, America Chavez and more, as well as Wanda Maximoff herself stealing the light from multiple MCU projects, Marvel could be heading towards proper representation of women with their upcoming movie Wonders in theaters July 28, 2023.
