House Of The Dragon Episode 6: What Are Larys Strong’s True Intentions?

Larys Strong, the crippled son of Hand of the King, Lord Lyonel Strong was first introduced in the fifth episode of House of the Dragon. He seems to have all the inside information about the reign of King Viserys. He was first seen talking to Queen Alicent Hightower about Rhaenyra’s mental health and Otto Hightower’s departure.

Fans didn’t know that he is a ruthless prison guard who has bad thoughts about achieving what he sets out to do. Episode 6 of House of the Dragon showed us that he is the worst character of the week. You might also hate Ser Criston Cole for mishandling Rhaenyra’s son. But the amount of rage, that devilish silence of Larys Strong, is greater than Ser Criston’s hatred of Rhaenyra.

Understanding Lord Larys’ Intentions

To be paralyzed throughout life brings ignorance and mockery. Even though he was Lord of Harrenhal and got the recognition he deserved, he seems unhappy with what he got. He wants the Queen’s favor and thinks Aegon will ascend the Iron Throne when the King dies. He foresees an upcoming war where Rhaenyra will fight to sit on the Iron Throne even though she is the declared heir.

The throne will not be easy for Rhaenyra, and Lord Larys knows it! When the fight comes, he wants to be on the stronger side, and that’s with the queen. Thus, episode 6 of House of the Dragon was about the cold war between Rhaenyra and Alicent. It is very clear that they are not on good terms and want to do the right thing for themselves. With constant failures to convince King Viserys of Rhaenyra’s evil deeds, he simply ignores her at all times.

In the midst of it all, Queen Alicent missed her father! She said the king will never believe that his daughter Rhaenyra is wrong and has violated the royal heritage. None of his children are from Lord Laenor Velaryon. Alicent wants to use this against Rhaenyra and ensure that she no longer remains the heiress, and this should pass to Aegon II Targaryen.

Queen believed her father would have been biased towards her and helped her accomplish what was necessary. So she shared her thoughts with Lord Larys and he performed a fire to kill his own brother and father at Harrenhal. It became dark for Alicent to believe what just happened because she spoke out to someone with silent rage.

Lord Larys then said, “Now you can write a letter to your father!”

It’s apparent that Larys is helping Queen fulfill her quest to make Aegon the rightful heir. But his intentions were redirected to the position of leader of House Strong. All the men of his family having left, it is he who will assume the torch to carry his family name. If the queen and the future king’s favors are preferably with them, he can get more than people expect from a crippled lord.

He’s going to have an even deeper character arc in the later episodes of House of the Dragon. So, let’s see what his evil silence has to do with the whole story.
