Ryan Reynolds set the internet on fire with his recent tweet announcing Deadpool’s arrival in the MCU with Deadpool 3 (DP 3). An amazing marketer, Ryan said in the tweet that he would be joined by none other than Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (or Logan) in DP 3. After a while, in another tweet, they both clarified that Wolverine’s appearance in DP 3 will not interfere with what happened in the movie – ‘Logan’ i.e. Logan’s death, stating that the events of the movie Logan took place in the future of 2029.
So what exactly could this movie be about? And what surprises could we have in store? Let the speculation race begin.
Does Deadpool have a new costume?
In the tweet video, Ryan Reynolds appears to be wearing a new Deadpool costume. But it’s not. It’s the same dented red and black costume he wore during his fight with The Juggernaut at the end of Deadpool 2. Perhaps the design of the gray costume that fans everywhere can’t wait to make an appearance should wait a bit longer. Maybe in a future X-Force movie. Maybe.
It’s possible that the recent Merc-with-a-mouth time travel shenanigans at the end of Deadpool 2 are the reason for Wolverine’s appearance in the movie. So there’s a good chance we’ll see the return of Cable, Colossus, Domino, and Teenage Negasonic Warhead in the movie. It’s quite possible that Deadpool’s time adjustment led to a readjustment of the entire timeline. This may be how Marvel plans to include the Mutants or the X-Men in the MCU.
Wolverine by Hugh Jackman: cameo?
It is clear that Hugh Jackman will appear as Wolverine in DP 3. But for how long? Will his appearance be just a cameo or will he be a regular MCU character? Nothing to say for now. But the many shreds of evidence suggest that Hugh’s Wolverine will remain from an alternate universe. MCU will soon have its own version of Wolverine, played by a different actor. So Hugh’s role in the film will likely be a short/extended cameo.
However, Hugh, after “Logan” came out, said he might never return to play Wolverine on screen again. But here it is. So who knows? Maybe he could reappear in a future project in the future. Maybe in a future Mutant movie or more likely in Avengers: Secret Warsbattling the other superheroes in Battleworld.
Deadpool kills the MCU?
One of the very famous comics that fans can’t wait to adapt on the big screen is – Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. Written by Cullen Bunn, the 2011 series followed the mass murder of Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, in which he decides to kill every Marvel superhero in existence. It is later revealed that Deadpool was once admitted to Ravencroft Asylum by the X-Men, in order to cure his growing madness. But the doctor treating him is actually Psycho-Man. In an attempt to brainwash Wade, he instead turned off his inner voicewho is replaced by a new one who encourages Wade to kill everyone.
Marvel doesn’t need to copy the exact script, but they can surely take inspiration from it. With the projects released so far, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Marvel is heading towards Young Avengers. If so, DP 3 can easily be their excuse to get rid of old Avengers and start fresh with new, younger heroes. Added to this will be the addition of Fantastic Fours and Mutants that will appear as a result of the DP time adjustment.
Introducing the MCU’s Wolverine
There has been a rumor floating around that Taron Egerton might be the one to play the MCU version of Wolverine in future projects. Other actors rumored to play the role include Daniel Radcliffe, Pablo Schrieber, Karl Urban and Scott Eastwood. However, nothing official has yet been announced by Kevin Feige’s team.
But, if Marvel is indeed considering having their own version of Wolverine, then DP 3 might be their best opportunity to do so. The new actor could make his film debut, and Hugh’s Wolverine could say his final goodbyes before passing on the mantle or lessons to this new guy.
With plenty of scenes of Deadpool fanboying Wolverine in the movies, and decades of amusing feuds between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, it will be interesting to see them finally get together. Their previous appearance together in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, did not land well with fans. Jokes will be cracked, everyone’s favorite mercenary will make sure. Yes, audiences will go crazy, the internet will be on fire again, and theaters around the world will rage. But come on… that’s a normal thing for an MCU movie. Is not it ?
