Innovation is always welcomed in the film industry, especially by the public. But it seems like there’s only a certain degree to which they want to see particularly new things. And one of those innovative things that don’t thrill fans is the announcement of The matrix get her own dance adaptation.
The classic sci-fi film with all the reputation it has built over the years now evokes some strong emotions among its audience, the emotions being ones of outright hatred. And what’s funnier is that the architect behind this bizarre plan is someone who is renowned for producing Oscar-winning films, Danny Boyle.
A dance adaptation of The matrix is in preparation for a premiere in October
The show is named free your mind and is licensed by Warner Bros. Theater Ventures to premiere at a new arts venue called Factory International, Manchester, UK
According to the logline, it’s a “large-scale immersive performance” which will serve as the venue’s inaugural show; the project also promises its audience to bring them The matrix in a way they have never seen before.“‘Free Your Mind’ will take audiences on an exciting journey through ‘The Matrix’ and into a new realm of possibility.”

The show was choreographed to make creative use of the venue’s large spaces with hundreds of hip-hop dancers participating in the event. “This eye-opening production will span the building’s ultra-flexible spaces, responding to them and harnessing the collective energy of the moment”indicates the connection line.
Along with Boyle, Tracey Seaward, another revered film producer, will help produce the show.

Fans react unfavorably to the news of The matrix turned into a dance performance
It’s certainly amazing to see the director of Slumdog Millionaire working on something as unusual as this. But if the staging of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics is proof, Danny Boyle has always been one to embark on intriguing projects.
However, his latest venture is more like a random situation that seems to have completely missed the audience. Not only are they unhappy with a dance adaptation of The matrix being in the works, but they are quite disappointed with the idea.
When Discussing Film tweeted news of the performance’s Manchester premiere in October, people immediately disapproved of it.

People are all but ready to stomach the idea of a dance adaptation of the classic movie coming out, let alone want to witness it.
But even if they don’t like it, it might not be as bad as they worry about. If anything, performance might just win them out as the connecting line says. One is never too sure of such things. So, better cross your fingers and hope for the best instead.
