‘Nobody Called Me’: Hillary Swank Reveals Cobra Kai Didn’t Call Her For Potential Season 5

Among all the renewals and nostalgia shows, Cobra Kai is at the top of the list, because it respects the tradition and adds new stories to the universe. It’s based on the Miyagi verse, which means we won’t be seeing Jaden Smith on the show anytime soon.

Cobra Kai saw the return of famed Karate Kid rivals William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence and Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso in Season 1. But unlike the movie, the show flipped the narrative, showing Johnny as the underdog and making the conflict much more complex and gray.

Hilary Swank in The Karate Kid

The Next Karate Kid became the first film not to feature Daniel La Russo as we saw Mr. Miyagi travel to Boston for a commendation for Japanese Americans who fought in World War II. There he meets Julie Pierce played by Hilary Swank, the daughter of his commanding officer, Jack.

Seeing her struggle, he takes Julie under his wing and teaches her karate to help her deal with her anger issues. Despite Pat Morita’s strong performance, many felt the installment was unnecessary and had very little to offer, earning a measly 7% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Will Julie Pierce appear in Cobra Kai?

We have already seen many characters from most Karate Kid movies are coming back to star in the series, so many people have been asking the question, will Hilary Swank be joining the cast? Speaking to CinemaBlend in 2020, the authors of Cobra Kai Noted:

“In our writers room, we literally talk about every character that appeared in the Miyagi verse, so obviously we talked about Julie Pierce. As to whether or not she will return to the show, that’s something. something you’ll have to wait to find out.

Cobra Kai
Thomas Ian Griffith has returned from retirement to star in Cobra Kai season four.

Hilary Swank was also bombarded with questions about her potential team on the show. As reported by People, Hilary Swank revealed that she hadn’t been approached to join the cast, but didn’t say if she would join if asked. She says:

“I’m not in Cobra Kai, nobody asked me to be in Cobra Kai. A lot of people ask me if I’m going to participate, it’s like the #1 question I get. Nobody asks me called! But it’s so funny, isn’t it, it’s the thing I get asked the most and no one called me.

Considering she’s already a part of the Miyagi-verse, it’s no exaggeration to see her join. Plus, the show has already burned most of the cast across all three films, while also bringing Thomas Ian Griffith out of retirement, so it’s only natural to expect her to join the next season of Cobra Kai.

Cobra Kai season 5 is now streaming on Netflix.
