Susan Winters was born to Danny and Avis Winters in Altus, Oklahoma in March 1966. By then, the beloved couple already had a son named Christopher. Susan eventually became a lawyer and worked in Oklahoma before moving to Nevada and taking a job with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. Subsequently, Susan married Gregory Dennis in August 1995 and the couple had two daughters, both of whom were teenagers when the incident took place.
Things, however, were turned upside down when the couple received a phone call informing them that Susan had taken her own life. Preliminary inquest findings revealed that she died from an overdose of antifreeze and oxycodone. However, Danny and Avis had reservations about the validity of this conclusion. Danny reported that there were two girls in his family. She cherished them more than anything. If she had intended to end her life, she wouldn’t have done so in front of these girls, nor would she have chosen a method that would require her to wait twenty-four hours to finish her off.
Avis was unhappy with the way the authorities handled the situation, and she expressed her displeasure saying, “We were disappointed with the justice system, we were disappointed that officials were not reading the evidence in front of them, we were disappointed that the Henderson police did not investigate and the Clark County Coroner’s Office simply accepted what Brent told them. For this reason, the family decided to investigate the case using the services of a private detective as well as a lawyer.
Additionally, the couple said Susan had not exhibited suicidal tendencies in the weeks leading up to her death and appeared to be in excellent spirits during her trip to Oklahoma in December 2014. Additionally, the parents claimed she was looking ahead to a turbulent 2015 and planned to take trips to watch her youngest daughter compete in cheerleading events. The couple reportedly reside in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and they are also the leaders of the non-profit organization known as the Winters Family Foundation.
