American psycho is one of the most unexpected cult films since its release in 2000. Mary Harron’s brilliant adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ thriller stars Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, a New York investment banker who is also secretly a serial killer.
The main character of the film, Patrick Bateman, is currently one of the hottest internet media characters who has been the subject of thousands of viral memes on the internet. It just goes to show that Bale did a great job portraying a character that will be long remembered, but it wasn’t that easy (or safe!) to do it.

How Christian Bale dealt with death threats while filming American Psycho
Mary Harron’s thrilling masterpiece is a satire and mockery of ’80s yuppie culture as well as the growing rise of consumerism at the time. The film is still relevant today and lives on through internet memes.
After its release on April 14, 2000, the film received rave reviews from critics impressed with Bale’s performance as Patrick Bateman as well as the screenplay. Commercially, the film made $34 million against a budget of $7 million – a huge success.

Christian Bale is a brilliant actor, we all know that. He’s also known for going all out to do his best to portray a character to his full potential, and those efforts were quite visible in American psycho. Curiously, Leonardo DiCaprio was the first-choice actor to play Bateman, having left the project due to creative differences. Earlier this year, Bale himself admitted that most of his starring roles have actually been passed on by Leo DiCaprio, for whom he owes his career.
Di Caprio probably wouldn’t have regretted his decision, though. Bale recently revealed in a special report for GQ that he faced death threats while filming the film-
“I remember someone threatening me on the street, in case some people objected to the film being made and all that. And I remember people saying they were going to do me wrong and stuff like that.
“And I remember someone warned me, it had to be a friend of mine who was crazy early on the internet. They warned me and they called me and they said ‘there’s someone one and they know where you walk everyday and you walk down that alley and they say they’re gonna jump on you and they’re gonna rip your cerebral cortex out of your head so the pleas don’t come down that alley.
That’s quite a threat, so what did Bale do? He keeps on-
“Of course I was like ‘I’m going to this alley, I want to see what’s going on’ and sadly nothing. I kept going up and down saying ‘Where are they?’ nothing ever happened!
These threats are a bit scary, and any normal person would NOT have walked into this alley, but he did. Bale would later go on to give a brilliant response to whoever threatened him not to star in the film by…starring in the film, and he did a damn good job!

In a recent interview with GQ, the Thor: Love and Thunder the actor expressed his desire to call it a day-
I’ve always been determined to say “When is this going to end? It has to stop. I like to do things that have nothing to do with cinema. And I find myself very happy not to play disguise myself, not to pretend to be someone else for long periods of time.
He may decide to pull down the curtains once and for all someday, but let’s not forget he said he would only consider a return as Batman in a movie if Christopher Nolan realizes it in an interview. with ComicBook.com.
So he still has a movie left in him, but it looks like he won’t show up unless and until Nolan shows up just in time to direct a new Batman movie and cast Bale as Bruce Wayne. , that would be heavenly.
