George Puscas is not related to Ferenc Puskas although the two players have a common surname.
There is no unearthed evidence that verifies he shares a lineage with one of the “greatest players of all time”. So far, nothing establishes his relationship with Ferenc Puskas.
The social media commotion began when a Twitter user uploaded a tweet in April 2015. The user posted two photos, one of George and the other of Ferenc, and captioned, “George Puscas, 18… The name of a real footballer. Nothing to do with Ferenc, I think.
After that, he got a lot of attention as many football fans are eager to know if the youngster was the blood of a legendary football player. The Romanian striker, although he mentioned this concern several times during his interviews, never clearly denied that they could be blood related.
Whenever someone from the press is about to ask him about the relationship with Ferenc, he states that he doesn’t like to be linked or draw parallels with him and that their common last name doesn’t has nothing to do with their relationship. He even once said, “To be honest, I’m Romanian and have nothing to do with his name. I’ll do it my way. I’ll be the Romanian Puscas.”
Are Puscas and Puskas the same?
Some might claim they can’t be related because their surnames aren’t exactly the same. Although the pronunciation is the same, their spelling is different. And they are partly right. George’s last name has the “C” word in the middle while Ferenc’s Puskas has the “K” word, so how can they be the same?
Well, George, although born in Romania, he is of half-Hungarian descent, and his surname Puscas is derived from Hungarian Puskas, and that’s the reason why he looks like Ferenc Puskas.
