The new phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might turn out to be a bit more than Marvel Studios can comfortably chew at a time. With its Disney+ releases and production of the big-budget blockbusters, the cinematic juggernaut has remained in a constant state of flux, which is now beginning to show as projects are pushed back to later dates. As a result, Marvel Studio’s current slate magnum opus: Avengers: Secret Wars has been pushed back to 2026.
Adding to a long list of delayed projects, another addition has taken its place in this list.
We have confirmation that the film that was supposed to mark the end of the MCU’s multiverse saga has now been pushed back a year from its original release schedule.
Marvel Studios delays Avengers: Secret Wars
Disney has officially confirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars was postponed from November 7, 2025 to May 1, 2026. Its predecessor, Avengers: Kang DynastyStill set to air on May 2, 2025. This comes alongside several other MCU films from Phases 5 and 6 that have been delayed, including Blade and Dead Pool 3.

These delays were caused for a number of reasons. Blade suspended its production due to the lack of a director to helm the project. Dead Pool 3 was postponed for two months due to scheduling issues. And, The Fantastic Four the reboot also took a hit due to similar circumstances, dropping from its original late 2024 release date to early 2025.
Avengers: Secret Wars is confirmed to serve as the end of the multiverse saga, but it will be a long road to get there due to the announcement of several delays. Upcoming crossover film, a project still without a director, recently hired Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron as screenwriter, which means pre-production could begin soon. So naturally, the dates had to be pushed back so that the MCU’s pivotal Phase 6 ending could enlighten audiences with the same energy as Avengers: Endgame.

Why did Marvel Studios delay their slate?
Continuing with the statements above, the huge expansion that has taken place in the MCU is perhaps the main reason why so many projects are pushed back later than their previous official release schedules. On average, the total number of projects undertaken by Marvel Studios in a year has grown from four to eight, which is an exponential jump. This also contains the exclusive Disney+ shows, which further heightened the challenge of executing the MCU perfectly. Avengers: Secret Wars is the alpha and omega of the multiverse saga, making it the default project that must be perfect in every way. So, rather than rushing to meet release dates, executives overhauled and decided to take it easy.
