‘Blade’ Gets Positive Update After Marvel Studios Film Is Put On Hold

Blade is currently on hold at Marvel Studios, but Mahershala Ali is actively involved in the film.

Earlier this year, Bassam Tariq left his role as director of the Marvel Studios film Blade, leaving the project without a captain. Marvel ended up stopping Blade in its pre-production phase as it still hasn’t found a suitable replacement for Tariq, pushing the film’s start date to early next year. The project was originally scheduled to begin filming in November.

Despite all the recent negative press surrounding Blade, Slashfilm reports that Mahershala Ali is still involved with the project. According to the site, Ali plays a key role in redefining the history of Blade and even has the power to request rewrites during this weeks-long hiatus from pre-production.

The Blade the script is being rewritten by Beau DeMayo. The screenwriter has previously worked on the Disney Plus series moon knight. It also develops the revival of X-Men: The Animated Series for the streaming service.

With Blade Now starting production later than originally planned, Disney has pushed the Marvel Studios title back to September 2024, from November 2023. The hiatus has also caused delays for other Marvel projects, including The Fantastic Four and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The cast of Blade currently features Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hunter, with Delroy Lindo, Aaron Pierre, and Milan Ray on board in undisclosed roles. It is not known if this delay will affect the casting of the project.
