Robert Downey Jr., who played the popular character of Marvel scientist and superhero Tony Stark, aka Iron Man for a decade, retired from the role after doing the 2019 film, Avengers: Endgame. With the death of Iron Man in End of Gamethe chances of Dolittle the actor resuming his role is losing weight day by day.
But if he doesn’t plan on returning as a Marvel superhero anytime soon, no one has said anything about DC, right?
In 2013, when Joseph McGinty Nichol had almost been the director of Steel manHe had big plans for the Iron Man actor to portray him as a DC supervillain instead. And with the new look that Robert Downey Jr revealed on social media with a completely shaved head, he really does look like the perfect person for the role.
Robert Downey Jr. Almost Played DC’s Lex Luthor
Joseph McGinty Nichol, known professionally as McG, had been head of The Return of Superman before the project is entrusted to Bohemian Rhapsody ddirector, Bryan Singer.
With the star trek director JJ Abrams on board as screenwriter and McG as showrunner, the Superman the film was originally to be titled Overview. Of course, everything that was before the charlie’s angels director was removed from the project. But while still overseeing things, McG recalled wanting to cast Robert Downey Jr. as supervillain Lex Luthor.

“We had Robert Downey Jr. locked up for being Lex Luthor, which I think would have been extraordinary. Ironically, we really liked Henry Cavill, but we hadn’t cast him yet. JJ wrote the script, and we ended up placing it really well, but I’m responsible for [the film not happening].”
The reason the movie never got made was a small dispute between Warner Bros. and McG. While WB wanted to shoot the film in Australia, the latter was against the idea because of his intense fear of flying. And since neither side could come to a consensus, McG, who also served as an executive producer for COwas fired from the project, along with all of his casting plans Zodiac the actor will also get lost.
Will Robert Downey Jr. come to the DC Universe?
Downey Jr. recently shared a video of himself on Instagram in which his children are seen helping him shave his head. The American actor and producer will star as a half-French, half-Vietnamese spy in the upcoming series, The sympathizerwhich will air on HBO Max.
While his bald look is for the character he’ll be playing in the new series, he certainly looks like a great candidate for a villainous role.
