George RR Martin really wants THIS scene in HOTD season 2

The literal god of the Game of Thrones universe, George RR Martin, has come out publicly several times since the end of the first season of House of the Dragon. Martin recently had a short Q&A on YouTube, where he answered questions related to House of the Dragon season 2, among other things. George RR Martin also gave an update on his upcoming book in The Song of Ice and Fire series; The Winds of Winter, saying he continues to write, and that the book “keeps getting longer”. He also stated that he would no longer give predictions on when the book would be finished, as he had been wrong several times in the past. Although Martin mentioned that three-quarters of the book is complete, George Martin’s story is far from over, as the final book in the series, A Dream of Spring, has yet to be written.

Before you jump into reading Martin’s favorite battle in House of the Dragon, see the interview for yourself:

In his Q&A for YouTube, Martin was asked which scene from Fire & Blood (on which House of the Dragon is based) he’s most looking forward to in Season 2 of House of the Dragon. When asked, Martin replied that he was very interested in the scene concerning “The battle for the eye of God”. What is the battle around God’s Eye, and why is Martin so keen to make the most of this scene?

Daemon And Aemond Fighting On Dragonback is the expected scene from George RR Martin: Caraxes vs Vhagar

Carax and Vhagar

Caraxes and Vhagar as shown in House of the Dragon

Daemon Targaryen and his nephew Aemond Targaryen had previously teased each other in House of the Dragon. In episode 8, “The Lord of the Tides”, the two had a momentary confrontation. With his long blonde hair and casually cool attitude, Aemond looks like a young demon. Additionally, both of these House of the Dragon characters have been shown to carry rock-solid egos that, when shattered, can prove devastating to those they are angry at.

The scene that excites Martin is the ultimate dragon dance, Daemon’s dragon Caraxes and Aemond’s dragon, the largest in the world, Vhagar. It would be a spectacular scene to watch, and far more exciting than Vhagar slaying the (comparatively) tiny Arrax, ridden by child Lucerys Velaryon. This conflict in the air, however, occurs near the conclusion of the story. We had a long wait with Season 1 recently completed.

What did George RR Martin say?

During the fan quiz (linked in the video above), George RR Martin said:

“Well yeah…the battle for the eye of God,” he answered a fan request about the Fire & Blood event he’d be most excited to watch on House of the Dragon. “Although that battle in the season finale was pretty amazing too.”

Another fan asked if Martin had any characters he’d like to learn more about. He’s willing to write more about some Fire & Blood characters, even the one who enchanted House of the Dragon followers for a single episode until his sad death:

“Rhaenyra’s relationship with Harwin Strong…she had three children by him, but we never see them first meeting or kissing. We never have a scene where they first slept together. We don’t know exactly what happened and how he felt about it and how Laenor felt about him. There’s quite a story there. There’s at least one short story and maybe one novel, but we just haven’t had time to tell it. And it didn’t fit the format of my history book. But it’s a story and I would love to do that.

Unfortunately, Ser Harwin is now dead and House of the Dragon will no longer explore that side of things.
