While the Avatar franchise is set to have four sequels, making it a total of five movies, director James Cameron seems to be aware of having to end the franchise right after the third installment. If the sequels don’t turn out as profitable as the first film, the 20e Century Studios could scrap the entire franchise.

If anyone knows how to get movies to the box office, it’s director James Cameron. His incredibly popular movie, Titanic, which was released in 1997 held the record for highest-grossing film for a total of twelve years. The record was later broken by Avatar, another film directed by Cameron.

Since Cameron’s work has reached such heights, why doubt it now? Well, the growing preference for streaming movies from the comfort of one’s home through streaming sites seems to be one of the reasons. There’s no doubt that theaters are seeing far fewer audiences than before Netflix and its companions went mainstream. Cameron might be worried The water pathat the box office, just for that reason.

In the December 2022 issue of Total Film, the aliens The director expressed his concerns about the sequel stating that he was unsure how the film would benefit financially.

The market might tell us we’re done in three months, or we might be half done, which means, “Okay, let’s finish the story in movie three, and don’t go on endlessly,” if that’s not the case. It’s just not profitable… We’re in a different world now than we were when I wrote this stuff, even. It’s the one-two punch – the pandemic and streaming. Or, conversely, people may be reminded of going to the theater. This movie definitely does. The question is, how many people give as *** now? »

While Cameron is sure the movie has all the potential to be the next big thing, one thing he isn’t sure about is whether people care more about going to the theater or not. Avatar’s opening collection was well below the $100 million mark. It was the film’s ability to bring viewers back to theaters for a re-watch that helped the film enter the billion dollar club. With the increasing use of streaming sites, will the sequel be able to achieve this?

The film brings back the original cast, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver. The Titanic actress Kate Winslet will be the new face seen in the sequel. The film has already started breaking records even before its release with an insane execution. The sequel is expected to be 3 hours and 10 minutes long, the longest for a widely released theatrical release.

Asked about the length of the film, Cameron said he didn’t want to hear any complaints as people watched TV shows for hours on end.

I don’t want anyone complaining about the length when they sit and watch for eight hours. It’s like, give me a break af*****g. I saw my kids sit down and do five hour-long episodes in a row.

The sequel will focus on Jake Sully played by Sam Worthington and his life on the planet Pandora which is under a familiar threat. He will be joined by Neytiri interpreted by Zoe Saldana, to protect the planet.
