Ever since Rocksteady took over the superhero video game landscape with the famous Arkham series, Marvel fans wondered when the company would finally step in and give us a game worthy of rivaling Batman. Of course, had some success with X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Ultimate Alliance, but nothing that really makes us feel like we’re in those heroes’ shoes. Not until 2018, when the game studio behind Ratchet and Clank finally puts us in the perspective of the wall-crawler with Marvel’s Spiderman. Insomniac managed to deliver an incredibly entertaining game with flawless writing that made us laugh and cry at times. And now, with Insomniac currently in development of a highly anticipated sequel, as well as the announcement of a Wolverine game, we’re curious what kind of game Insomniac could create if they delved into the dark side of the comics. What if Insomniac were to create games based on DC Characters? And just to settle something before reading on, Batman won’t be on this list.

The Green Lantern
The Emerald Knight would be perfect to play with Insomniac, with his massive scale traveling from planet to planet. Insomniac will be able to develop beautiful landscapes and architecture for planets like Oa. And since they managed to feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales for their Spider-Man game with similar but different gameplay, the same aspect could be applied to the multiple lanterns players can control. Give John Stewart and Guy Gardner a much more offensive approach, while applying a defensive style to Kyle Rayner or Hal Jordan.
night wing
It’s perhaps one of the easiest to adapt, combining Spider-Man’s acrobatic and swinging abilities with Nightwing. Nightwing is also known to have gliders between his arms and body, a glide action could also be applied to Nightwing so he could easily maneuver through the city. Link the assortment of gadgets and fights, Insomniac might just have to copy and paste his entire Spider-Man deck and just add Nightwing.
Beast Boy
A character like Beast Boy would absolutely take a lot of time and creativity to try and tie together the different animals Beast Boy can transform, but give Insomniac a great test to try and pull it off. Give players the option to maneuver around the city on the ground as a cheetah or hover over it as a pterodactyl. Create side missions and easy challenges that allow players to find the right type of animal to handle each scenario. Unlock different animals throughout the game by leveling up or completing challenges, just give us this game already!
Birds of prey
This one might be a bit more difficult since we have a variety of characters with Batgirl, Huntress, Black Canary or even Harley Quinn. What this one might be better suited to Rocksteady, we still think Insomniac could do. Whether you have the ability to choose which bird of prey you want or follow each character through the campaign. Either way, give each character a unique playstyle that lets you play the game in multiple ways.

Shazam
You might be a little confused by this one, wondering how we could get a Shazam game before a Superman game with so many similarities between the two characters. While Insomniac would absolutely make an amazing Superman game, Billy Batson/Shazam’s personality and style is a little more like Insomniac’s style. As cool as it is to play as members of the Shazam family, all we really need is Billy for epic brawls and power tests with villains like Dr. Sivana or Black Adam. Maybe while you’re at it, throw a Superman cameo in there!
Fire storm
Firestorm is interesting, providing much-needed gameplay for both teenage Ronnie Raymond and the scientists who inhabit it, Professor Martin Stein. Allow players to solve puzzles with Professor Stein like Peter Parker did in Spider-Man. Then, play as Ronnie Raymond’s Firestorm to fly through the city and battle various villains. With both playstyles, you get a great mix of both characters and almost two games in one.
Mister Miracle
He’s a character who could make a compelling story. Whereas Scott Free is the son of High Father from New Genesis, but was traded in a peace offering to the Lord of Apokolips, Darkseid. Growing up on Apokolips, Free learned to evade the most complex locks to free himself from Apokolips. Players can have the opportunity to interact with incredible environments such as New Genesis and Apokolips. At the same time, include amazing boss battles with characters like Granny Goodness, Steppenwolf, Orion, or Darkseid himself.
plastic man
Besides Beast Boy, Plastic Man might be one of the most interesting ways to travel around a city. Able to transform his body into different shapes of sizes, you can easily use his abilities or transform into something fast, swing through the city or hover by transforming into a parachute. Another fun aspect would be combat, allowing for a single action that could lead to endless tactical possibilities during brawls.
Static
With the resurgence of Milestone Comics in the DC Universe, characters like Static are starting to grow in popularity. With that comes the opportunity to continue this franchise, especially with a recently announced movie in development. A static game would most likely be compared to Sony’s Infamous but knowing how Insomniac, they would be able to make a unique and creative game that differs from Infamous. Something vibrant with smooth motion and colorful action.

Zatanna
A powerful magic user could be incredibly fun for Insomniac when dealing with a character like Zatanna. Allowing the game company to use the many spells Zatanna can use, while exploring the supernatural landscape of the DC Universe. Insomniac can introduce players to various magic-wielding characters such as John Constantine, Etrigan, Dr. Fate, or The Specter. While a deck could be made for any other of these selections, Zatanna is our choice.
